"Lily?"
"Yeah?"
"If I end up leaving this world, you know, committing suicide,"
"Uh huh?"
"Will you promise you'll jump with me, too?"
I smiled.
"What are best friends for?" I replied, a devious smirk appeared on my face.
Charlie Ryan. My best friend since fourth grade. I could always count on him, I could always trust him. He was my soulmate. My friend. Not like any of the stuff our classmates would tease us about.
We both have a tough history. My mother was an alcoholic, so I've lived with my father my whole life. He never really spends time with me, he's too busy working. And I respect that. He is, after all, making money for my education and whatnot.
Charlie's parents are divorced and his sister was killed when he was six. They were in a car crash, and his sister suffocated from the airbag inflation. Six-year-old Charlie went to treatment, which was meant to help him forget and move on about his sister's death, but none of that worked. He is suicidal. None of that bothers me, because he is my best friend. And I have to get through this period of time with him.
If he actually commits suicide, which he won't because I would make sure that doesn't happen, but if he does, I will talk him out of it. It won't happen. I'm sure.
