"Jeremiah Forjd. Kit Friesian." The judge scans our faces. "You have both been identified as Powerfuls and in accordance with the Powerful Limitation law issued in 2449 you are hereby banished from America."
Tear marks line her cheeks. Handcuffs identical to mine, bind her shivering hands. We both stand behind a glass wall facing a court like room.
The judge continues talking, but I don't register his voice correctly. Instead I look out at the faces that watch us.
First, the judge in the back of the room. His face stern. He reads from his papers. Second, Kit's family. Her dad clings tight to her mom. Tears stream down his face. Her shoulders bob up and down, face in her hands. Her two siblings stand arm in arm. Toby, with his arm around Angel. She sobs into his chest. Lastly, my dad. His white lab coat stands apart from the rest of the crowd. His face closely resembles that of the judge. Stern and uncaring.
I look away from his gaze. My heart rolls in my chest. I clench my fists.
He put us here.
