                                                                    Awakening The Dead

The repetition of screaming children echo through the streets. The lights flicker and I hear the crunching noise of my converses hit the ground. My breathing forms small white clouds of condensation. Looking around i see two kids around the age of six years old playing together happily, but ignore their ghostly bodies as I walk through them. Ever since I was little I've been able to see the undead spirits. Unusual yes, but honestly it's more annoying seeing them while trying to do normal sixteen year old things. But what makes things worse is this year I am starting at a new school having to move to England prior to mum's work. England is pretty different to Australia with the kangaroos jumping through my backyard and kookaburras cackle early every morning.

As I'm walking I spot a tall lean guy, around my age with strawberry blond hair, glasses and a beanie. I blink for a few minutes thinking this is some type of joke or perhaps a figment that someone that attractive lives in the neighborhood. In my head I go "snap out of it, you're here to explore the town at night not go sightseeing for attractive guys". As I walk away and get on my skate board, out of the corner of my eye I catch him glancing my way, but my inattention repays me as I crash into the curb of the road and face plant into the grass. My glasses break and there is blood seeping from my head and spreading all over the ground. In the distance I hear a voice yelling, but I struggle to figure out the sweet tone of the voice, as I lose conscious. I catch a glimpse of strawberry blonde hair flowing as the boy leans over me, reminding me of the long  grass suddenly caught by the wind at home. My vision fades to pitch black.

The hallucinations begin taking over my mind. I wake up in the middle of a paddock with my small, fluffy, white Maltese dog, Snowball. She is laying on top of me all excited and licking my face. Covered in the sloppy saliva. Sitting up I take in my nearby surroundings, I swear I was in England a minute ago but realize must have happened, I'm back in the spirit realm again. With a loud sigh I get up on my legs, pushing Snowball away. Looking around I see the town, I recognize from my change of clothing being that i am in an old 19th century Victorian Gown. The velvet red in stark contrast to my pale skin and the small embroiled patterns on my dress. I admire my dress while walking into the town. It is like walking back in time. With the sounds of the rumbling steam engines, all the women formally dressed with silk dresses and fancy hats, giggling as they walk past a bunch of men in long coats with their top hats....
