Feeling that rush of hopelessness hurts more than anything. Hoplessness leads you to becoming desperate. Yeah, desperate is the word that describes how I feel right now. The only thing that probably might help me is at least a little peek at happiness. That's all I ask for. Of course I can't get that right now, it's so predictable that it's scary.

I was sweating beads of sweat as I ran as fast as I can. My heart pounded in my ears as I raced toward the gate in full speed. Ignoring the blood that was now fully spread around my helmet screen. I closed my eyes and trusted my legs to guide me through. Vision wasn't an option right now. It was how fast I can sprint toward Amy.

My heart got stuck in my lungs as I raced the gates. I couldn't manage to lose someone right now-even if I hardly know them. But this, this caught me by heart. Could it be Mayor Jocken doing this on purpose? Sending that assful refrigerator to torture us? Seriously?

Please don't...Please don't..."Please don't!" I yelled as I squished myself in the gate-which was suprisingly moving much more quicker than I have expected. My lungs began to tighten as the gates squished the living hell out of me. I try to cleanse the screen of my suit but my hands were stuck to the side of my body. Facing side ways to my left, I see a little image of Amy sprawled on the floor, the refrigerator right on her left leg.

"Amy!" I yelled. She reached her hands toward me, screaming. I couldn't hear what she was saying. The gates began to shut more rapidly. I couldn't budge anymore. My lungs went to the point where I couldn't breathe anymore which made me not move anymore. I was sandwhiched in between the 2 gates.

I closed my eyes. Waiting for me to die. Am I gonna die this quickly? Maybe Mayor Jocken got his wish...of me...being first...dead.

CRUNCH!

My eyes remained shut as I heard that huge noise. I still felt the coldness around me, the airless coldness of...Earth.

I flashed my eyes wide open as my vision became much more useful. I slid my hands out through the gate and wiped my suit screen clean. Right infront of me, is a struggling screaming Amy, and the fridge being crushed too.

But the fridge was doing something. It was stopping the gates from breaking. It was being crushed too but the metal inside it was being pushed towards eachother so the gate was forced to stop-it was the perfect block. The gates remained shaking and attempting to close on us but it stopped since the fridge was blocking it.

One more problem. Amy's foot is stuck under the fridge.

"Damn it!" I muttered as I squeezed through the gate. It may have stopped but it didn't go back the way it came from. Thank goodness, making my way through I managed to reach Amy.

"Amy!" I yelled. "Saphire!" Amy said weakly, clutching my left hand, "Please make it stop! I think it may kill me!" I looked at her, confused until I see her left foot was stuck under the fridge. Blood was squirting out as the fridge dug deeper into the not-so-healthy soil. Amy wailed in pain as the blood kept pouring and pouring.

I kneeled next to her left leg as the blood was now staining her suit. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Amy. I leaned closer to her leg and saw that it was a serious injury and it couldn't be healed with just an average pull...her leg was infected. I shut my eyes closed, thinking of the possibilities that I can do to stop the bleeding. I only had 3 options.

1. Leave her

2. Pull her out and risking further and faster infection

3. Cut off her leg before the infection spreads

The third one sent me chills. I always hated looking at bone. My mother used to be a doctor but I couldn't stand to look at what she did everyday. Idiotic people in FortGage would try to look outside to see how Earth really is-they either got burnt, sliced, or died since FortGage's security perimeter is highly classified.

"AMY!" I yelled. Amy turned her head towards me, her green eyes filled with tears that was streaming down like the virtual fountain in the infirmary. I couldn't look her in the eyes and say what I was about to suggest. It will scarr her. And me too. I looked away, feeling her blood pour on me now.

"I need to cut off your leg," I said. She looked at me like I was crazy. "Are you nuts?! I'm fine! Saphire! Just pull me out! The pain hurts!" she wailed. Seeing someone in agony made me in agony, but right now is not the opportune time to hear her tantrum her way out of this mess. "Amy! Your foot is under the refrigerator and probably got infected! The refrigerator cut me bad too but not this bad! It didn't cause me that much pain as you are now. So, it's infected!" I explained, quickly.

She started to cry more and she stopped struggling and laid her head down on the ground. "I don't...I don't want to lose my foot," she screamed and started doing a tantrum again,"I'd rather die then lose my foot! Kill me now! I don't want to lose my foot! I'll be nothi-"

That's when I slapped her.

She stopped, her eyes wide open and her jaw dropping. She turned to look at me. "Listen to me!" I screamed at her and slapped her again. "Look! If you cut off your leg, yes it will be a major difference but at least you would live! If we pull it now the chances are you'll still cut your leg off if I pull you out, but it'll spread the infection faster!" I yelled at her.

She furrowed her eyebrows at me and she shook her head, "No! My mommy wouldn't like me anymore if I was with no leg! I'll be...hideous!"

I ruffled my hair in the suit and slapped her again. I stood up and started squeezing my way towards the other direction. "Where are you going!?!" Amy shrieked. "If you'd rather die then cut your foot off then fine by me-the third option is me leaving you!" I yelled back, fighting the tears that was breaking to go off. She started doing a tantrum again and yelled, "No! Don't leave me Saphire! Please! No! Stay with me! I'll get my foot off! Just-just...JUST STAY!"

I stopped and looked back, seeing that Amy was a reckless mess. Her hair all frizzy and dirty, blood stained her suit as she tried to reach me with her hands. I squeezed my way back-I couldn't let the girl die. "Amy...your going to have to fight back the pain, but I promise you it'll end," I whispered on her ear piece through her suit. She cried silently as I took out a knife from the backpack I held at the back of my back.

I stared at my reflection through the knife. I held onto it with my left while my right took off her left suit leg, I managed to patch it by tying the suit around her knee-where I was gonna make my pin point to cut half the leg off.

Her skin was disgusting. I can tell the infection was spreading quickly as it grew bruises on her leg, it was having a seizure-being exposed to the Earth's air and all. I tried not to throw up since the bruises turned into whorts which popped after 4 seconds and puss oozed out. "What the heck is wrong with Earth!?!" I whispered under my breath as I line the knife right below the knee.

Amy cried silently, hiding her face with her hands as she was ready to endorse the pain. I closed my eyes. Before I sliced her leg, I sighed and said:

"You have a purpose."

I sliced through her bare flesh as blood poured out. Amy's cries grew into screams as I sliced inch by inch on her flesh. Amy begged me to stop several times but I knew she wanted me to do this. I had to stay with her. Amy began to weep and scream. Her screams were torture to my ears as I managed to push the infected part of her leg away.

Throwing the knife away since it was probably carrying the bacteria in the leg that caused Amy pain. I wrapped Amy's bloody foot with a part of her leg suit before I cut her leg off. She was screaming still and how it hurts so badly-I know...It hurts me by just watching her. I couldn't help but cry too. I put her on my back-piggy bank style and sprinted as fast as I can as the refrigerator broke away. Amy cried and I cried too-but I cried much more silently.

At least...we got out of the gates, safely...or is it safe?
