I bit my thumb nail, staring at my own reflection through the small window in the bathroom. I watched the swirls of pollution in the wind, the sky covered with disgusting smoke...it was depressing. My hair is tucked into a pony tail with a color of my choosing, white. They made us all wear white and black for the choosing today. I'm scared...terrified.
"Sis! Whare you doing? Taking a poop!" a loud, impatient Adam screams. I look down at the floor and see little finger tips under the door, trying to get in. That brings a smile to my face. I grab a blow dryer from the cabinet and fanned the little fingers. A high pitched "EEEP!" comes from Alice.
I grin and walk out after putting my shoes back on.
"OWW! MY SKIN IS PEELING OFF!" Alice whines, lying on the floor. Adam laughing really hard and poking her tummy.
"You're overreacting!" I say, tickling both Alice and Adam.
Suddenly the compartment door slides, revealing two men in full grey and white armor. Steel helmets are on their heads. I thought they were robots but the human eyes through the glass holes on their helmets.
"Compartment 89, checked. Escorting Saphire, Alice, and Adam Wades to the front square, over." says one of them, their voice low and firm. Adam and Alice hide behind me.
"Confirmed," the other one says, this voice a much more high and sweet voice. Obviously a woman who was surprisingly buff. "Step out the compartment now and into the hallway! Any movement of escape, we won't hold back!"
The man poked me with a laser gun that signaled me to move. I move, holding Adam's hand on the left and Alice's hand on the right. "I won't esc-" The woman hit me in the back of my neck with the point of her laser gun. Alice whimpers while Adam looks at the gun in amazement.
"Keep walking!" she shouts.
I grunt, "Aggressive much? Maybe you should watch where you point that thing!" The man pushed me with his hand this time and kept pushing me until we got to the Front Square. I never cooperated.
Alice and Adam look at me, their hazel eyes switch to a deep purple. They were terrified. I smile at them. They both smile and go back to talking about their matching outfits. I want to break down and just hide... I am scared.
I look around the halls. Everyone walked in lines with their family. It wasn't just us who had an escort. I blink three times and look at my distinct schedule:
CHOOSING CEREMONY
I close my eyes. I was hoping to see my normal schedule. Never thought I'd say that... The big red words didn't help my anxiety.

The walk to the Front Square felt like a torture road. It took forever because the elevator pods we're inaccessible. Adam and Alice were practically almost dead, I offered to carry them but the guards wouldn't let me. For a moment, I thought I saw sympathy from them but it was just pain.
Once we made it to the Front Square, they let us go on our own. We weren't allowed to go out though. Once you're in you're in. No way out. Alice and Adam had to go to the children section since they aren't able to participate in the choosing ceremony. I'm glad they can't particpate. I would have died if they were able to. If I got picked, at least I know that they will be safe.
I start to look for Chase but its hard since there are so many people. I'm surprised I haven't exploded from clausterphoia.
I manage to find Chase's parents though. Chase's mom wears a white dress, a black scarf, and black heels that matched her black hair and black eyes. His dad has a black tuxedo with a white and blue tie which match his blue eyes. They stood next to their body guards who were actually calm. Probably because Chase's parents are very obedient.
