Words and symbols scrolled across the screen. The girl's fingers flew across the keyboard as her eyes remained glued to the monitor. A crackling came through the headset at the girl's ear.
"Hey Miranda, can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear Lou," she replied.
A panting sound came from Lou's end. "I'm in position. Have you been able to hack into their system yet?"
"Hold on; I've almost got it."
Lou looked around. A long driveway that led to the mansion ended in a circle surrounding an extravagant fountain. Massive trees lined the long driveway and extended back along the sides of the house. Tired from his ascent, Lou leaned back against the trunk of the tree. From his vantage point, he could see partygoers stroll in and out of the brightly lit building. He smirked as he saw a girl throwing up against a tree. Good, people were drinking tonight. That would make his job so much easier.
"Okay, the cameras should be off now."Lou's ears strained to hear Miranda's voice over the party's loud music.
"Thanks, I'll be heading in now." Looking around, he scanned to see if anyone noticed him.
"Please be careful. I'll be here if you need anything." Worry laced her words.
Chuckling, Lou climbed over to a tree branch that hung over the house and slipped onto the roof. "Don't worry about me; I'll be fine. I've taken on worse tasks than this." Being careful to be quiet even with the pulsing music, Lou walked across the roof to a second-floor patio on the other side of the mansion. Once again checking around, Lou made sure no one saw him lower himself onto the patio. He turned around and pushed open the door. "I'm in."
"Good. Remember what your goal is and do not get distracted." Miranda's voiced lectured him through his earpiece.
Lou rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. I won't get distracted." Looking around, he saw a sleek, black grand piano on one end of the empty room and an intricately carved wooden door on the other. The tiled floor gave Lou the impression that he was in a ballroom.
"You say that, but do you remember what happened last mission?" Disapproval was evident in Miranda's voice.
"Okay, that was one time, and the girl was really pretty." Lou made sure to keep his voice down as he walked toward the door.
"Uh huh, right. Just go get the necklace."
"Fine. I'm entering Hallway 1 now." Reaching the door, Lou paused and took a breath. No need to be nervous; he had done this a million times. He pushed open the door and walked into the hallway.
It was a vast, beige colored hallway decorated with tapestries and old paintings. Man, the owners really needed to modernize their decor. Tapestries were so seventeenth century.
