Death

Icy fingers gripped my arm in the darkness. It was cool and refreshing, like a breath of fresh air. I turned to see who had given me such sweet relief, it was Death he kissed the top of my head saying, "Come my child your long suffering is over. You were brave but fret no longer." His voice sweet and beckoning. I followed him out of the room and past the red barn in the yard and into the thick forest. We came upon a door in a tree. I had never seen it before despite my various trips through the forest in my healthier days. He gently led me through it. I suddenly felt a twinge of pain for forgetting my parents they would be worried about me, anxiously I looked around for a way to tell them where I was. Death reached out a steadying hand and placed it on my shoulder, his cool touch calmed me and I realized that this was best for us all. We proceeded along a long twisting path, yet it was not tiring in the least. A walk this long before would have left me tired for hours, but instead I felt rejuvenated. Time seemed to cease it was becoming irrelevant, useless. When we stopped walking our path continued into a large chasm. It was full of brilliant light but there was no apparent light source. It was warm and inviting. I suddenly felt as though a great burden had been lifted from my back. It felt wonderful at last i was light and free, something I had not felt since i had become sick. Death turned to me and in a low peaceful voice said "Wait here, you may explore but do not stray to far. I will return." He disappeared into a thin mist. I continued to take in my surroundings, there was something otherworldly about this place. There appeared to be walls but whenever I tried to walk toward them they got farther away. There are other people near me but they  do not seem to be able to see me,they walked as though in a daze, oblivious to the world around them.
