"You have grown outrageously audacious, young lady," I remarked dramatically, glaring at her in absolute amusement.

"I think I caught it from Scott," Jean argued, miming a pondering expression, and I simply shook my head, chuckling at her saucy responses.

"Now, he would be proud of that smile," Jean commented, toning down her playfulness into an honest compliment as she rested her hands on my nerveless knees.

"I'll make sure he sees it," I vouched, smiling as wide as I could conjure.

"Now, quit fooling around and find Erik," I urged, reverting to seriousness as I pulled her up to her feet and egged her on towards the sophisticated helmet.

"Are you sure I can do this?" Jean sought, glancing down at me with an apprehensive look as she clutched onto the polished headpiece.

"You're a class five, Jean. I don't believe you should need to be afraid of a machine," I refuted confidently and she simply smiled weakly, albeit I could tell it was a patronizing one.

"Just calm your mind. You'll be fine," I reassured cordially, rubbing along her back as I gave her a firm nod.

With a deep breath, Jean fitted the chrome skull onto her head, with only her bright amber mane in the way, and the curved surfaces around us were instantaneously decorated by clusters of white glitter. The specks of light, however, failed to change colour and Jean gasped erratically, struggling to contain the noises, as she gripped onto my shoulder for support.

"Focus, Jean," I appealed kindly as she nearly clawed through my gown and ultimately, the beams dimmed into the familiar crimson hue.

"I believe Erik's lair is guarded but see if you can leech on any of them leaving the base," I advised and she nodded, darting her eyes around the magnificent formation of scarlet glow.

"I'm not getting anything..." Jean grumbled, frustratedly planting a fist to her hip.

"Oh, wait," she blurted and suddenly leaned forward, striking both palms to the dashboard.

"There you are, you fucking frog!" Jean growled viciously and her fury heightened in exaggerated proportions, flushing her fair skin in a fiery golden shade essentially like she wanted to unleash Phoenix on him.

"I'm not quite sure that's possible through Cerebro, my darling," I advised, chuckling, and she pouted childishly, fading her skin back to its typical tone.

"And for god's sake, you're a teacher. Watch that tongue," I chided sternly, smacking gingerly on her back.

"You should see his tongue, Lynn. It's disgusting," Jean retorted scornfully.

"What do you want..." Jean murmured, staring forward in great concentration.

"Oh my god... This can't be happening... It's not possible... It doesn't make any sense..." Jean mumbled sporadically as she frowned in puzzlement at the luminous aggregate dispersed ahead.

"What is it?" I asked impatiently, eagerly tugging on her shirt, as she continuously piqued my interest.

"Erik... I think he's... He's building a device... Like a machine..." She stuttered, wariness and terror glistening her eyes of jade as she peered down at me.

"What sort of machine?" I grilled anxiously as Jean expeditiously removed herself from the gigantic instrument, speedily transforming the surrounding environment back to its lifeless state.

"The sort that kills mutants," Jean unveiled fearfully.

While the absurd news was undeniably astonishing, my mind seemed to have anticipated the ridiculous discovery that oddly pieced together all the random fragments of memories floating in my mind into a peculiar story, one so incredibly inconceivable yet simultaneously plausible.

"Gather the others. You guys need to go on a mission," I instructed, collectedly swiveling around and drove myself out of Cerebro.
