Inuyasha was alone again. Miroku and Sango left to revive her village and start a family. Kagome was gone for good. As for shippo, he refused to stay in the village that no longer had Kaede. Shippo chose to stay with Inuyasha.

Having Shippo by his side eased Inuyasha. He felt anxious without Shippo and worried when Shippo got hurt. It was Inuyasha's mother instincts. He had adopted Shippo as his son. To Shippo, that was the best thing for him.

"Mama, I'm tired." Shippo stated as he rubbed his eyes with a yawn.

Walking all day and night without rest took a toll on the kit.

In a swift movement, Inuyasha lifted Shippo into his arms and brought him close to his chest. He would hold Shippo as he slept.

Night was falling fast. Too fast for Inuyasha in fact. His heat was approaching in less than two days. The search for safe ground was all too real. He could feel the tiredness already.

'Shit...I have to reach Koga..' Inuyasha paused in his thoughts. Koga? Why Koga? Sure he was good in battle and combat but what did that really mean to Inuyasha.

Inuyasha shook his head as his ears flattened. 'I love Koga don't I?' He questioned himself as he leaned against a tree for support.

'When did I start having these feelings? The moment he held my hand? The moment he became concerned for me?' He thought as his breathing labored.

'No! Not now... I need to get to a safe place' he thought as he looked up. Realization hit him, he had steered them to his brother's land. Sesshomaru was an alpha. He could protect them until his heat passed. He was sure of it.

Every step was agonizing. Tiredness was claiming him fast.

'I need to get..into the castle' he clenched his teeth as his vision hazed.

Shippo began to stir in his arms. "Mama?" Said Shippo as he looked up at Inuyasha.

Inuyasha couldn't take another step. His grip on Shippo loosened as he swayed.

Shippo clinged to his fire rat kimono. "Mama! What's wrong?!" Shippo panicked as they began to fall.

Shutting his eyes, Shippo braced for impact. However, it never came.

Right before him stood Sesshomaru who was holding Inuyasha upright.

"Bro..brother.." said Inuyasha as his labored breathing intensified.

One word after that reached Sesshomaru.

"Heat.."
