"I can't believe you're going to do this!" My best friend Lillian squealed. She was so dramatic.

"It's not that big a deal." I shrugged as I checked through the sexy lingerie.

"Not a big deal? You, Vanessa, want to finally have sex. It's the hugest thing in the world!"

"Hugest is not a word." I scolded.

The thing is, it really was a big deal. I was 23 and still a virgin. Unlike Lillian, I decided to wait for the right person. Lil makes sure to tell me every day that I'm being completely ridiculous. Well, not any more. Luke is the one.

"You have to wear this!" Lillian's voice squeaked louder, if that were even humanly possible. She held the piece of clothing to her body and her smile widened. "This is so the one."

My eyes fell out of my sockets, "No way, that can't even be considered clothing."

Her face dropped. "You're going to be naked once it starts, and this will make him want you more than he ever has."

"Fine," I sighed. I took the clothing from her hands.

"Yes!" She jumped for joy.

I looked at the price tag and gasped. It couldn't possibly be this expensive for basically no material. I placed it back on the rack.

"I can't pay for this Lil." She groaned.

"Fine, I'll get it for you. Consider it my present to you for finally joining the rest of us non-virgins." She grabbed the article of clothing and raced to the counter.

"Sometimes I wonder why we are friends." I rolled my eyes.

"Oh please, you know you love me." The lady handed Lillian the bag, which she handed to me.

I giggled, "I guess so."

We linked arms and walked out of the store.

I tied my robe gently, making sure to reveal some cleavage as well as the lingerie. Luke was going to get the biggest surprise of his life.

I had this night planned weeks ago. I remember he was sitting in his office playing on his phone. I had strutted in and sat on his desk playfully. It took me a while to grab his attention, but he eventually set his phone down. When he did, I told told him that I had a little something for him, but that it wouldn't be ready for a couple weeks. He had simply nodded and gave me a kiss on the cheek. His phone then rang. The only annoying part was that he had waved me out of his office when he took the phone call.

That wasn't the first time something like this has happened. Lately, he's been so distant. It's like his life had no room for me in it.

I shook those thoughts aside. Tonight was the night, I thought.

Suddenly, my phone rang and blasted the song We Don't Talk Anymore.

"Hey babe." Luke said through the receiver.

"Hi Luke." My stomach turned. "When are you gonna be here?"

There was a long pause. "Yeah I'm not gonna make it tonight. The guys and I are going out. Maybe another night."

My heart dropped, "Okay whatever."

"Thanks, love." Luke chirped. My eyes watered at his words.

"B-" my phone cut off.

Tears rolled down my cheeks. Maybe it was because of the fact that I finally was ready, and he just blew me off. Or maybe it was for a deeper reason. Luke never had time for me. Why the hell was I going to sleep with him? I thought he was the one. He's always been so kind and patient, but it's not good enough anymore. I'm done with him. I deserve to be treated with respect.

I dialed Lillian's number.

"Vanessa, you better not have-" she started.

"He just blew me off." I fell to the ground next to my bed.

"Oh...I'll be right there with some ice cream and Titanic." She hung up.

She really was the best friend a girl could have.

I gingerly stood up, my legs wobbly. I slipped off my outfit slowly and grabbed sweats and a baggy shirt. This was so much more comfortable.

No matter how much I think I want to give him up, my heart is screaming at me to never let him go. For years now, he's been my everything. We were meant to be together, at least, I used to think so. I was going to be free, and I didn't know what to think about that.

A knock came from my apartment door. "Did someone call room service?" I heard her giggle.

I left my room and opened the door. Lillian had a grin on her face that dropped as soon as she saw mine.

"It's gonna be okay," she wrapped me in a hug, "who needs him anyway?"

I did. I really did.
