Jinx

Prologue: A sad story

Sebastian was an orphan, but worse than an orphan. You see, his had been an orphan ever since he was able to mutter a single word. In fact, his first sentence said was "Daddy and Mummy, I love you." You see, the local authorities had said that Sebastian parents had died to a terrible car accident when a car from the left side of a traffic junction crossed the road without looking at the traffic lights. But Sebastian knows better. The car had magically appeared out of nowhere. Sebastian had thus believed that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter indeed exist in Ohio itself.

Due to the untimely demise of his parents, the local law enforcement had decided to place Sebastian with his aunt's family instead of sending him to the overcrowded nursing home, and the only one in fact, of Lima, Ohio. Sebastian had learnt his lesson about not saying I love you to his aunt and uncle for a very long time. This was before a baby came into his aunt's body. Sebastian knew that he had someone to play with now, and thus proceeded to say "I love you" to the baby. The following day, the aunt was mowing the grass when suddenly she fell and suffered a miscarriage. His aunt did not blame him, as she was soon laughing that she should listen to the old wives tales and not to mow the grass during pregnancy. Sebastian knew that there was no rule about this, as he had read almost every old wife tales there are, from Chinese belief to European belief. However, his aunt had firmly said to him that she did not blame him, causing him to say, "I love you" to her. The following day, his uncle had found a suicide note on his bedside table, informing that his wife had left him to join his son.

Sebastian had then locked himself up, knowing that these were not coincidences. His uncle had tried to take him to climb mountains alongside him to de-stress, but Sebastian never wanted to follow him. During one of his session, his uncle had said that he loved Sebastian as a nephew, and did not belief in him being a jinx, blaming everything as a coincidence. Sebastian, wary of the jinx, said "me too" rather than "I love you" to his uncle. However, the next day, when climbing up the Grand Canyon, there was a sudden avalanche. Local geologists had said that the avalanche should not happen, and Sebastian knew, at that moment, that he was jinxed.

He was then placed into the hands of his other aunt and uncle. They were the Karofskys. He was wary of his jinx and had not said "I love you" to any one of them once. He had made a vow to protect the Karofskys from such fate. However he tried to isolate himself, believing that through isolating himself would he be able to protect the Karofskys, the more persistent Mr Karofsky wanted to include him in the family. During one of the scuffles between him and David Karofsky, which David Karofsky and Dolores Karofsky had claimed Sebastian had initiated it, Mr Karofsky had sided with Sebastian. Sebastian was overflown with emotions that he told Mr. Karofsky that he felt that Mr Karofsky was so much like his late dad.

Fate again decided that that was enough, and the next day, while on the way to work, Mr Karofsky had been shot by a trained sniper in the stomach. He was on the verge to death when he boarded the ambulance. His last words to the paramedics were "Tell Sebastian that he was not to be blamed." In fact, Daniel Karofsky had knew the consequences of allowing him into his home but still did it.

When the paramedics arrive at the house to deliver the last words, Dolores Karofsky had deliberately coughed at fourth last word, so loudly that Sebastian felt that Daniel Karofsky had hated him. Dolores and David kept bullying him, asking him to do the chores while all Dolores and David did was to sit there and point. They said that they had done their fair share, which Sebastian knew by heart was moving the furniture so Sebastian could sweep the floor, finishing the any leftovers so that the fridge can be cleared up, and telling Sebastian how to do his daily chores regularly, which was important because Sebastian was so stupid. They had also claimed that the room Sebastian was in was too dirty for his health, and moved Sebastian to the cupboard under the stairs, a much more dirtier room.

When Sebastian had finally entered middle school, the bullying increased. When David was stressed out from school or Dolores from work, Sebastian would be used as their punching bag. They had chosen to hit Sebastian on the arms and legs only, so that it would be visible. As such, Sebastian had worn a jacket and jeans to school daily to prevent the students from noticing. Also, he had become more aloof and his social circle dwindled, as he felt that those friends may hurt him one day.

When Sebastian started dating, David would always demand full access to his phone and had sewn discord between Sebastian and his girlfriends. He had also often visited their house to rape them, or as he put it, to show them what more he could offer than Sebastian could ever hope to do so. As such, Sebastian had not had any long-lasting girlfriends from high school. This could be seen as a blessing too, as they had left Sebastian before Sebastian could say I love you to them.

This means, also, that Sebastian could focus on his acting skills. He had, since young, aspired to be an actor on Hollywood, working alongside the other bigshots that he could ever dreamt of. He wanted also to be featured in an interview by Jimmy Cowell and thus he had worked hard on his language.

Before long, he had graduated from college, and was stepping into the Hollywood Studios for the very first time. As he pushed open the golden doors of Hollywood, he could feel that there air here was slightly tense, but he devoured it hungrily nonetheless. With a heavy heart, he started walking to the elevator lobby, already late for the interview to be cast as a main character in Artie Abram's "Blitzkrieg: The fall of London"
