"The brief said terrorist," Edwards was saying. "You want to start explaining this?"

"If I told you, would you believe me?" Flag said.

"I wouldn't," Athena called out, catching their attention. "I don't believe anything he says. He's a bad liar."

Understanding flashed in Flag's eyes, and he rolled his jaw before approaching Athena. Grabbing her by the arm, he snapped in her ear, "You tell anyone what's really going on without my permission and I'll kill you."

"Don't have to," she hissed back. "Nobody here believes you, anyway. They're gonna find out. And then it'll take a miracle for them to want to help you after that."

"What are they?" Harley asked, bringing the two back over to the group.

Athena glanced down at Digger, who was dusting the remains off a watch one of the monsters had on. She looked up at Floyd and subtly gestured to the watch with her eyes.

"I don't know," Flag replied.

"That's bullshit," Athena snapped.

"Thing is, he owned a $3000 watch," Floyd agreed. "Is that a person?"

"It was," Flag answered calmly. "Now it's not." After commanding Digger to put the watch back, he said, "We're moving." Next he spoke to Edwards. "Get your boys moving."

Edwards frowned for a moment. "Let's go."

Athena sighed. Glad he's finally leaving, she thought.

"Crossbones."

Shit, spoke too soon. "What now, Edwards?"

"You said you don't believe anything Flag says," he whispered. "Why?"

"Are you deaf or just incredibly stupid?" Athena snapped. "If you'd been paying attention, you'd know that I said it's cause he's a bad liar. Seriously, I've met sphinxes who are better liars than him, and those things cannot keep a straight face."

Edwards snorted. "I don't even know why you're here or why Waller chose you. You may kick ass, yes, but otherwise you just mouth off. And besides, I'm 99% sure you have the capability to self-diffuse that bomb in your neck, which means you could leave. So how can a psychotic woman like you be useful to anyone?"

Athena huffed. "'Psychotic' is just a three-syllable word for any thought too big for little minds."

"Just answer the damn question, Crossbones."

Athena spun around and pinned him to the nearest car with her elbow, her eyes pure red and every tattoo on her body glowing.

"Does this answer your question?" she asked in a voice that sounded like twenty voices.

"You don't scare me."

She narrowed her eyes. "That's bullshit. We both know that I do. I can smell your fear, Edwards. So I'll give you - and only you - my real answer to that stupid question Flag asked me back at Belle Reve. The only reason that I'm here is to wreak. Havoc. Everybody I know is either dead or praying that I'll change." She chuckled. "Yeah, maybe one day. But tomorrow I'll be back at it, just like that. Know why? Cause for me, bad habits die hard. That's how it is with me. I live fast, I die hard. So I'm gonna tell you something. And you better fuckin' remember it." She leaned in close to his face, her eyes suddenly snakelike. "ʙᴜᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ɢᴏ ᴀɢᴀɪɴsᴛ ᴍᴇ, ᴀɴᴅ YOU'LL ʙᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ᴏɴᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴅɪᴇ ʜᴀʀᴅ."

Then she let him go and jogged over to the others.

"Ya done talkin' ta ya lil' boyfriend, Athena?" Harley asked with a giggle.
