He opened his door after the second knock. His soft hazel green eyes, met mine, and I knew I was on the verge of breaking. He invited me in. And I told him everything.

"Well, sht Ellie.", He scratched the back of his head.

"Why didn't you tell me? I could have gone with you.It was your first time on the job!"

"I know, I know, I'm sorry! Jyoshi wanted me to step up my game, and I wanted to prove I could."

I held my face in my palms.

"Now I have no evidence! I can lose my job.I can lose my life!"

He shook his head.

"I'll talk to Jyoshi. You won't lose your job.And your life? Well....are you afraid?"

I looked up at him.

"What?"

"Are you afraid?"

I looked down.

"I'm fine", I lied.

"Ellie, if you're afraid, you can stay here. You said they broke into your home. You can stay here tonight."

I shook my head.Staying with my boss? It sounded so wrong, but the pang in my side caused me to agree.

I went upstairs to get my pajamas and other supplies I may need. I swallowed a few advils and prayed the pain would go away. I came back to find a made bed in the guest room. He smiled.

"I'm making dinner. It'll be ready soon."

I nodded a thank you.

He made soup, and I was thankful the hot liquid soothed my body. After, we sat on the couch to watch TV.We flipped through channels, but nothing good was on.He looked at me.

"I'm going to talk to Jyoshi on Monday. We can put you on the weather team, or something else."

"No", I spoke firmly,"I have to get my evidence back, I have to find out more."

"Danielle, they left you a warning. The Yakuza don't play around. This isn't a game, it's your life."

"But-"

"I'm your boss and what I say goes."

I shrank back.Austin wasn't one to use the boss card.He sighed.

"How about I teach you some Japanese?Do you know any?", he tried to change the subject and lighten the mood.

I shook my head no.

He laughed.

"I'm pretty sure reporters need to know the native language."

"Hai is yes.Lie is no.Understand?"

"Hai", I giggled.He smirked.

"Li is good.Warui is bad."

I repeated after him.We laughed as I hopelessly took shots at the words, leaving them completely twisted and mispronounced. As I learned new words, my eye lids grew heavier each minute.Soon I drifted to sleep, and I was glad I had stayed.I felt safe with Austin.
