Chapter 3: "I'm Not Even Sure How You Did That..."

Start from the beginning

"Don't think I'm going to go easy on you kid."

"I'm technically an adult. But don't worry blondie, I won't go easy on you either."

With those final remarks being said, the two began their fight. Gary used the sword like an extension of his arm, so all of him attacks seemed surreally natural. Ruby focused on defense until she saw a pattern beginning to form. She kept jumping out of the way of his attacks and eventually saw an opening.

Rolling to her left, Ruby gripped her dagger and shot it underneath of Gary's shield. Retracting the knife, Ruby rolled back so he couldn't counter attack. She didn't notice, however, that her dagger was now a deep red and dripping.

Gary knowing something was wrong, dropped his shield. He looked down at his abdomen and dropped his sword in shock. There was a circle expanding around a slit in his uniform, but he felt nothing due to the adrenaline rushing through his veins.

Finally, Ruby noticed, dropped her dagger, and ran over to the man to apologize. Rune, as well as all the other students, noticed too. The match ended immediately with Ruby as the victor.

"How?! How did you manage to plunge a dull, plastic knife, to the hilt might I add, into his stomach?" Rune immediately questioned Ruby.

"I-I don't know. It just kind of happened." Ruby admitted.

"Kinda bleeding over here!" Gary shouted, holding the now gushing wound.

Rune quickly told the student to get to the medical ward, since the room had no bandages to even temporarily help him. Gary slowly nodded and shuffled out of the room, holding the wound tightly, and leaving a blood trail behind him.

Once he was gone, Rune went back to Ruby, who felt pretty horrible for stabbing this stranger.

"I am genuinely impressed with your fighting techniques. Perfect score. I expect great things from you in the future."

Ruby thanked the instructor, and calmly walked away. On the inside, she was gleaming with pride. After she went back to the group, a few of the students took a little step away from the girl. All of the intimidation she lacked before, was now there.

The remaining students who passed the first test went, all of which choose other students from the group who passed. This way they were equally matched, and no one would end up being stabbed. Once they were all done, Rune dismissed them to their rooms.

Jade and Ruby made their way to their room. On the way they watched a scene unfold before them.

Gary was still slowly making his way to the medical ward, and leaving a trail of blood behind him. Behind him though, and quickly catching up was a dwarf with a spray bottle of a sanitation spray of some sort and a rag, cleaning the trail as he went.

Soon the dwarf reached Gary, and he was stopped in his tracks.

"Dua... What can I do for you?" Gary cautiously asked, trying to hide the blood pouring from in between his fingers.

"You! You bleed everywhere! You know how unsanitary that is?!" The dwarf yelled, cleaning the blood as it reached the floor.

Gary apologized and tried to back into the door that was blocking him from the medical ward. Dua, however, put an end to Gary's dreams of making it to the medical ward before pain set in. He grabbed his spray bottle and squirted the contents into Gary's wound.

The scream and sudden thud of him collapsing was concerning for all those witnessed it. More so for the new students who did not know who either one of these people really were. The older students mostly brushed it off, but were concerned slightly as to why it was Gary and Dua, and not someone else and Dua.

Ruby and Jade looked at each other with pure concern, maybe there was even a hint of regret of agreeing to go to this academy. The two watched Gary crawl into the medical ward, and took this as they should probably leave.

"Do you remember where our room is?" Ruby asked.

"I think so, just keep walking until something seems familiar." Jade replied.

The two wandered until Ruby noticed a missing torch on the wall.

"I know where we are now!" She announced and darted off.

Not wanting to be left behind, Jade chased after her and eventually the two found their room. Both collapsed on their beds and soon fell into a deep sleep, excited for what class they would end up being placed in, and what adventures the rest of the year would give them.
