Chapter 3: "I'm Not Even Sure How You Did That..."

Start from the beginning

"He bit me!!" Sara screamed, desperately trying to kick the rat off.

Before she could slam him against the table, floor, or wall, Jade intervened and called her rat back. Chompers released his grip, and scurried over to the lady who resurrected him from the dead. Sara slowly walked back to her seat, finally getting the fact that she can't magic.

The student, wanting this test to end as soon as possible, took over again. He eventually got the remaining students who passed the rune test to try out the spell. About three of them were able to successfully cast the spell.

When everyone got their scores they had to wait around for about ten minutes before the last student leading the groups to their tests finally arrived. When he showed up, the man studying from his books was able to breathe easy again. The entire time, he cautiously watched Ruby just to make sure she didn't somehow set anything or him on fire.

The group of students finally made their journey to their final initiation test; combat. The route to get to the dojo in which they would perform this test, was relatively short. The magic rooms and the combat rooms weren't too far apart apparently.

Once the group of new students arrived, the instructor almost immediately introduced himself.

"Hello students, I am Runesocesius."

"Runesocosoanemone?" Ruby attempted to pronounce.

Not surprised, the instructor continued with the intro, "You may just call me Rune, so we don't have to go through all the trouble. Now I'll be testing you in combat. We can start with hand-to-hand combat."

The group formed pairs and began to 'fight' their opponent. Rune was not concerned if people won or lost, he was watching their form and techniques; then scoring the students based off that. Ruby easily knocked her partner on the ground with one swift motion. Jade, she was knocked down in a matter of a single minute; she only lasted as long as she did was because she was avoiding the person from most of his attacks.

"I've seen enough!" Rune shouted, putting an end to the practice fights. "Now we can move onto the bulk of the test." He separated the students into groups of who passed and who didn't. Ruby was advanced to the second part, and Jade had to wait on the sidelines.

"Who would like to spar first?" Rune questioned the group who passed.

Sara ran forward.

"Very well. Select your opponent, and your weapon." Rune explained, then gestured to a cabinet with the following weapons; a sword, shield, dagger, stick, axe, and hammer – all of which are plastic or some other material to cause minimal harm.

Sara selected the stick for who knows what reason, and the pointed to Rune, "I challenge you!"

Rune simple laughed but took a fighting stance. Sara happily ran over to the circular arena and charged. Since Rune was on the defense, he easily stopped her attack. "You tried," he said before he shoved her out of the circle, declaring Rune the winner.

"I'll give you credit. I knew you weren't going to win, but you did try, so I'll give you that much. Next?"

"I'll take blondie on." Ruby announced, stepping forward, pointing to a student sitting on the sidelines sharpening a sword with a shield leaning against his chair.

"That is my best student by far, Gary. Are you sure you don't want to change your mind?" Rune tried to reason with Ruby.

"Nope. I'm going to fight him."

"Very well, choose your weapon. Gary, training weapons, please."

Ruby darted over to the cabinet and choose the plastic dagger. Gary almost doubled over in holding back a laugh. He grabbed a practice sword and shield. The two walked over to the arena.
