Hermione woke up, remembering she was back at Hogwarts.  She pulled the curtain open from her four-poster bed and slipped off the covers.

She was startled by a smack at the window.  "Oh my goodness!" She covered her mouth, staring at the owl on the windowsill.

"Poor thing!" She muttered opening the window, receiving the note from its beak.  She looked at the owl realizing it was Errol.

She sat on the bed opening the letter.

Dear Hermione,
I hope my brother didn't act like an complete idiot.  I know how hard this must be for you.  I assume you went back to Hogwarts, and I whish your not too sad over the holidays.  Mum says your welcome to come back if you like.  I might be able to join you in a week if that would be ok too?  Well anyways I've packed all your stuff, it should be there by tonight.  Harry says  hi, and is practically smacking Ron upside the face.  We'll see you later.
                                     -Ginny

Hermione scribbled a reply and gave it to Errol, shutting the window as he managed to fly away.  She let out a sigh, not knowing what to feel.  She went down to breakfast after trying to fix her puffy eyes.

The great hall was even more empty than the last night.  It was rather early.  She spotted Luna and decided to sit at the Ravenclaw table, after all no one was at hers.

"Hermione! I'm so glad your here, now I won't be completely bored!" Her friend beamed.

"I heard about Neville, is he doing alright?"  Hermione asked concerned.

"Well he seemed to want to stay, but he really felt it necessary to visit his grandmother, well you know, with her being sick and all."

"Well at least it's the holidays so he could go!" Hermione sighed looking at her plate.

"What's up with you, weren't you supposed to be at the burrow?"

"Yeah well I thought I should come back and study, and I'm even going to the library today."  Hermione smiled and hoped her friend would believe her.  Dean and Seamus bought it, but again, they were Dean and Seamus.

"Hermione is something wrong? You can tell me!" Hermione looked into her friends eyes, and she cracked.

"Ok fine! Something is wrong!  Me and Ron broke up!  I mean I broke up with him!  It's not that I care....I just don't like him anymore....what am i saying?  Of coarse I still like him.  No I don't! That's why I broke up with him. Oh I don't know Luna, it all happened so quickly.  I said I was leaving, and I wasn't serious until... well he told me to go.  I got so upset that I actually left!"

Luna just stared at her with a smile.
"Well aren't you going to say something?" Hermione asked.

"I think you said what you needed, I am merely here to listen!"  Luna quickly left the table"bye Hermione!" She said walking away.

What? Hermione was so confused.  She ignored it and looked at her plate.  I'm not hungry anymore she thought.  She made her way out of the great hall, and headed towards the library.

She immediately smelled parchment and ink when she walked in sighing in content.  The smell always soothed her.  Perhaps she could get everything off her mind by spending the morning reading a couple of books.

She made her way over to the bookshelf's and grazed her fingers over the bindings.   She pulled out one of the biggest books"Fantastic  beasts and where to find them." She loved this book, with all the illustrations of all sorts of creatures.  She opened the book to see a basilisk and remembered using it to study about the chamber of secrets back in there second year.
