                                                           Choices

Have you ever made a choice, a choice that changes your whole life and the people around you? I have, I’ve made a choice that I regret to this day. It clutches within my soul draining my spirit like a parasite. A knife that slowly gorges, a dark hole swallowing you until you can’t breathe fresh air. I’ve been lost within the dark like a wondering ghost looking for an answer.

That answer I’m unsure, an answer that seems lost or forgotten I can’t find. Why did I do it, why is this happening to me, why me? Why I do deserve to suffer for something I can’t control? My name is Josh Heartland and this is my story. A story that changed my life forever for the being I used to be. Listen to my story, a story where the choices you make there’s no turning back….

I awoke when my alarm clock woke me up for school. I turned over slowly to my alarm clock to shut off the annoying sound from the clock. I then rolled over staring up at the ceiling rubbing my sleepy eyes then took a deep breath.

I sat up straight from my bed looked around as then I got ready to go to school. After I was done getting ready I started eating breakfast in the kitchen. It wasn’t a big breakfast; it was just a bowl of cereal. As I was eating my older brother Dan came down also getting ready for school.

Dan is a senior and as for me I’m a sophomore. We both go to the same school Breman High School. “I’ll be working late tonight” said my brother Dan fixing himself a bowl of cereal. “You always work late at night why?” I asked him.

“Oh come on Josh you know why” replied Dan; “I have to work late because of our situation with almost losing the house” said Dan sitting down at the kitchen table with his bowl of cereal across from me. “Ever since Dad died years ago everything is a mess, mom can’t even get a job” said Dan scooping his spoon into his bowl of cereal eating.

I just sighed “mom pushes me around too much she’s over controlling me to the point where I can’t breathe” I said to my brother. Dan looks up at me “I know she is bro, but she just wants what’s best for you, she doesn’t want you to do what dad did for a living” said Dan.

“What did dad do for a living that mom doesn’t want me to know?” I asked. Dan paused from eating “I can’t tell you because mom doesn’t want you to know what he did, you know that Josh” said Dan finishing his bowl of cereal.

“I know she doesn’t want me to know but it makes me so angry that mom doesn’t tell me about dad. I don’t even know my dad because he died when I was five years old but you knew him” I said. Dan got up and put his bowl in the sink

“I did know dad and what he did for a living but I remember mom telling me the day he died that I can’t tell you what he did” said Dan turning around from the sink facing me. I started getting angry “I deserve to know!” I said demandingly.

Dan just looks at me “come on let’s go to school we’re going to be late” he said walking into the other room getting his coat. I walked behind him and got my coat “fine be that way!” I said putting my coat on.

My brother and I walked to school and arrived just a couple minutes before the bell rung for class. My school is what you call a demented soap opera except it’s the real thing. The kids at the school are so dramatic it’s like your own prison society. I hate high school because of everything that goes on sometimes I’d wish I could get away from it all so I wouldn’t have to deal with all the crap but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

I arrived at my first class of the day math, one of my favorites sarcastically speaking. The only reason I go to class is because of this girl that I’m good friends with. She sits across from me in math class. Her name is Katie Carson I’ve been friends with her since middle school.
