I'm currently sitting on a plane on my way to California. Two days after the police called, a lady named Eleanor called and explained that it states in my mother's will that if anything happened to me I was to live with my uncle Jeffery in America. I didn't even know I had an uncle. He must be from my dad's side because I know everybody on my mum's side of the family.

Noticing the worried expression on her face, I know something's not right.

She explains to me that my mother had never informed uncle Jeffery of her decision. He doesn't even know I exist.

His personal assistant has arranged a a hotel for me. Next Monday I would be starting in a fancy American boarding school.

I can't help thinking that if he is sending me there he must be pretty rich.

As I finish packing, some of the neighbours call. They're all quite shocked at how well I was taking Mum's death. They just don't know I've dealt with this before.

I just do what I always do. Forget. Right now I must try and forget my mum ever existed. It sounds harsh but it's they only way for me to get through this.

"Miss, the flight will be landing soon" a pleasant flight attendant told me waking me up.

"Okay, thanks" I replied trying to stay calm. It had taken me so long to get to sleep. I only managed to get five minutes, so I really wasn't in the best of moods.

That's my one rule. if your nice to me I'm nice to you and if you're not, basically your fucked.

The plane lands and I make my way through the airport, collecting my luggage and following the exit signs.

How am I even going to know what uncle Jeffery looks like when I go out?

I soon realise that wouldn't be a problem. There is a man in a suit waiting holding a sign with my name in big black letters 'Jordan Stokes'.

Is that him, my uncle that I've never seen before? He's the last bit of family I have. He looks very young though, barely over twenty if you ask me. Not much older than me at seventeen.

I walk over to him."Uncle Jeffery?" I ask. He just laughs, "Do I look as if I'm fifty years old, Miss. Stokes. I'm not your uncle, just his driver. I've been sent to collect you. The names Vince".

"Oh, okay, hello" is all I can manage. I feel dissappointed. I was hoping that uncle Jeffery would at least collect me himself. Even if he doesn't want me liiving with him.

Vince grabs by bags and tells me to follow him. He dumps my stuff in the boot and opens the door for me. I like Vince he seems nice. We're both quiet until he stops the car.

"Okay, Jordan we're here" Vince shouts back.

I look out the window. There's a big sign over the door saying the 'Harden Brent Hotel'.

Uncle Jeffery lives in a hotel? He seems pretty rich, with his own driver and all. I turn to the front of the car but Vince is already gone.

I see him heading into the hotel. I run in the door behind him to find him putting all my bags down next to the reception desk.

"Oh, so you finally decided to get out of the car" Vince teased.

I can feel myself turn red. Ugh, why must I be so easily embarassed. I hate it so much. The fact that I practically go red when somebody even teases me about the tiniest thing is probably one of the reasons I'm so shy, especially around guys.

"Jordan, your uncle asked me to give you this" Vince says handing me a large envelope. Why would he give me an envelope when I'll me seeing him in just a couple of minutes, won't I?

"Oh, and this is Catherine, she'll look after you" Vince says turning to leave "I'll be here at 3pm sharp on Sunday to bring you to Jefferson High so you better be ready "

I'm looking forward to seeing Vince again. I like him. He's easy to talk to and nice.

"Hello Miss. Stokes. As Vince said I'm Catherine. Your room is number
810, if you just take the lift to the top floor the door will be right in front of you. Here's your key and your bags are waiting for you"

I take the key and turn around. She must be right because my bags are gone.

How didn't I even notice somebody taking my bags from right next to me?

I head up to my room thinking about what I'm even going to say when I meet uncle Jeffery.

I open the door to the room. Holy shit, it's massive! It's like a whole fancy apartment with a pool out in the balcony and everything. I wish I had the energy to go look around but I'm so tired after the flight. It's just going to have to wait until tomorrow.

Where's uncle Jeffery? This place looks untouched. Too tired to look for him I decide to wait until tomorrow to meet him.

I quickly pull a top and tracksuit pants out of one of my suitcases and get changed. As I get into bed I realise how tired I really am.

Who can balme me anyway? There's an eight hour time difference between here and home. Well, I guess this is home, for now anyway.
