After The Boy graduated high school, his surroundings began to change from his best friends going on different paths to moving to a different area for a higher education. Though he doesn't feel lost anymore, he is struck by all of these ideas yet he...
After the night at the beach with The Squad, everyone fully understood their destiny and what they have to do to get there. After a years worth of panic attacks, mental breakdowns, and grinding to their best effort, high school finally ended. But what does this mean for The Squad and their paths? Jerry went off to college in the East Coast (more specifically Babson College, but he didn't want to share it with everyone because if he did, then he is only bragging of his acceptance to the outlets of social media and to his friends that aren't going to college.) Alana decided to work with her father full-time in his company since she saw potential within it. She didn't have to do it, but she chose to do it. Last, but not least, The Boy went to college at UCLA which was particularly close to Venice Beach and close to his home. Though our 3 characters picked 3 completely different lifestyle changes, they will forever be The Squad that we always cherished and remembered. But this time around, I want to focus on one character specifically: The Boy
From all of his inner doubts of never becoming an iconic individual, The Boy soon realized his destiny and his purpose of the life that we live. But...though he still remained calm, his mind became even more scattered. From issues of the black community to finding that one person that could give him unconditional love and support, The Boy finds himself at a crossroad with no direction to each of these problems. After a month or so into his higher education, he gained more connections to perform his music and with that, the girls started crawling towards him (pretty ironic since they've ignored him all his life but as soon as they see that he is becoming successful, they grab onto him for dear life. No longer girls who want love, but girls who want potential. ) With his positivity movement, of course it would attract girls who want positivity in their lives. But it wasn't enough. They only liked him for what he did to them, not his abstract personality, not his abnormal laugh, and most certainly not his off tangents during conversation. But as The Boy continued being successful, he soon found that time...is passing. Not in the sense of our circadian rhythm, but the structure of time is passing away before his and our very eyes. Time seemed to be as relevant as a goldfish to The Boy until life hit him once again: what was he doing with his time? Time is an idea to make the normal human succumb to a schedule when in reality, there is no absolute reason why time exist. There is no reason why we ever need sleep. After countless times of rehearsal in the middle of the night, The Boy gets a text.
*bzz bzz*
The Don: Yo, where you at?
The Boy stared at the phone confused since he knew The Don only hit him up when it dealt with business or something urgent or about studio time.
The Boy: In my dorm writing some lyrics, what's up?
The Don: I'm at Venice Beach with Hazy Jay, you tryna come thru?
The Boy: Yeah, gimmie 10 minutes to get ready.
While driving to Venice Beach, he couldn't help but remember the times when he did things like this all the time with The Squad. Driving around town, sitting down in the sand with ideas in mind...he couldn't help but reminisce and get emotional. But he knew that thinking of the past will only allow his thoughts be limited to the past.
When he arrived, The Don and Hazy were bumping some "hipster" music in which the vibes were so mellow and perfect that you could never really describe it. He did the 3 R's handshake as he approached them. (it showed to prove that you were a part of the RRRM family). As The Boy sat down near the bonfire, he realized that this was his New Squad and that though The Squad will forever be in his heart and he wouldn't be here without them, the New Squad is more of his music family.
The Boy: So what's up guys? Everyone back at school is sound asleep
Hazy Jay: Well, we aren't everyone back at school now are we? Man, we are different from those kids. They don't understand that our time is passing us by like a leaf in the wind. We just play our routine each day doing our daily activities and suppress the thought of our time being wasted.
As if bullets pierced The Boy's wholesome mind, Hazy's words triggered something in his mind that he was thinking of the whole time. They not only understand the concept, but they understand the intricate concept like the back of their hand. As The Don and Hazy Jay, The Boy begins to have visions of dejavu because something similar happened to him with The Squad.
The Don: Yeah it's like...we end up doing things we don't like doing just to go on living to do things that we don't like doing (mindfuck moment right there). In a sense, we are a slave to time until we understand that without the concept of time, our minds become free.
The Boy: I'm not going to lie, the past few months I have been struggling to change my schedule to beat the concept of time. But I don't know, I've felt more frantic and depressed even though I've been doing exactly what I wanted to since I was the age of 14. This is my dream. This is my passion. So why aren't I happy? (There he goes going off of tangents)
Hazy Jay: I feel that we aren't happy because when we keep climbing to success, we forget about the little important things like our parents, our friends from school, and even loved ones...
When Jerry stated those exact words, it made The Boy reminisce on Hazy's past heartbreaks. That man has been through so much that what he explains to us isn't even the surface of his experiences.
The Don: I remember I lost a lot of close friends due to this music shit, man. It's like an addiction. A normal person doesn't get that it's something we constantly fish for, it's not a temporary thing. Sometimes I feel so focused and stressed on it that I lose sight of everyone who loves me too...
As The Don, Hazy, and The Boy look out onto the vast, blue ocean (blue ocean room, similar feeling at this point) that had all their destined goals inside. But will they finally understand that their time is soon to be gone? Will they soon understand that all their loved ones are trying to grab their attention to bring them back to their roots? Sometimes, even I don't believe I can...
