Stepping out of the oakwood shack she called home, Lilac Turmoil sped silently into the stone paved streets. She turned a quick corner, then leaped onto a wooden platform, landing on her feet with a dull Thud. She passed the old sign that hung in the front entrance:
Duskhowl Burrow
She smiled as she passed, and subconsciously rubbed her hand on the rotting spruce. The place was empty, no sign of Filverel or Eryx anywhere. Finding a spot on the floor where old wine barrels stacked precariously in a corner, she plopped down and let out a huge sigh. The town was being more hostile towards Lilac, since she was different from the other girls and boys in Pinnella Pass. Lilac had purple eyes, lilac to be precise, and long jet black hair, while boys like Fil had blonde hair and blue eyes. The girls were the same. She was the only one, and she knew her parents were not actually her parents, as they had the village traits. Somewhere, out there, her real parents were looking for her, their stolen child. At least, she hoped they were. Suddenly a crash and a grunt snapped her out of her thoughts. Lilac stood and sped towards the noise, thinking it was a soldier. Instead, Filverel Qinlar was on his back, groaning softly. Lilac rolled her eyes at her clumsy friend.
"Fil! If you can't jump up to the platform, then use the stairs!"
He just groaned in reply. He sat up and combed his lengthy blonde hair with his gloved hand. The elf slowly stood and faced Lilac. Frowning, he placed his hand on his hips and grunted. Lilac liked that about Fil, he was mute, so he was critiqued too. That didn't stop Asloe Wincup, though. She was in love with Fil, and that made Lilac pretty angry.
Lilac walked up to him and placed her hand on his cheek. She smiled warmly and hugged him, needing his comfort. Her eyes teared up at the thought of her parents. Fil sensed her despair and patted her back. Sniffling, Lilac pulled back and looked around the burrow. "Where ever is that silly dog at?" She quizzed, her eyes stopping on the placemat her dog usually slept on. Fil shrugged and sat on the floor. Lilac rolled her eyes once more and jumped out of the hideout. She cupped her hands to her mouth and called out, "Eryx! Eryx! Come here, boy!" Her voice rang out into the empty street. She waited and still nothing. She called out once more, louder. Still nothing. Lilac huffed and walked back into the burrow, worried. Fil was on the floor, counting some old copper coins from the barrels. When he heard Lilac stomp into the burrow, he looked up, his eyes questioning. She simply shook her head and sat next to him. "He's gone missing, Fil!" She stated suddenly, startling Fil. He stared at her, trying to read her face. She just looked on, her purple eyes settling on a yellow light outside. Frowning, she crawled closer to the exit, trying to get a better look. Her eyes widened, and she frantically tapped Fil on the shoulder, gesturing wildly to her discovery. "Look! Look! It has to be him, right? Or it could be something cooler!" She said, excited. Fil nodded and stood up, walking towards the light. Lilac followed closely behind him, wanting to see whatever this was.
