Cancer.

The end of the day finally came, and I could leave this horrible place.
Though sometimes I wish I could stay, wait for Hayden's beautiful face.

Walk her home, like the gentlemen I would be.
Interlock our hands together, as she leans her head on me.

Her boyfriend would be nowhere to be seen, so I could steal a kiss.
I would say goodbye to the beautiful girl, who later I would miss.

"Hey, Ethan right?" Her soft voice fills my ears.
"I think you dropped your pencil." She says, with a smile that could bring me to tears.

"Thanks Hayden." I finally choke out, feeling my body fill with butterflies.
"Hey I've seen you around, maybe we could hang out?" That's when my heart literally stopped, and I thought I was up high.

High in the clouds, dreaming of this moment.
But it was real, and I didn't even know it.

"Ethan?" her voice fills my ears once more.
I look up into her eyes, the eyes that I simply adore.

"I would love to." I simply say, a bright smile plastered on my face.
"Great. Maybe we could go to starbucks, then go back to my place?"

"That sounds great." I said calmly, though I wanted to jump and yell.
"Well, I'll meet you and Grayson after school." She said and my face fell.

Of course she wanted Grayson to come, he's a thousand times better than me.
I wanted it to be just us, but I didn't say anything and let it be.

"Wonderful. I'll see you later Hayden." I said as I got up from my seat.
I started walking away, when she pulled me back and kissed my cheek.

My heart skipped a beat, as she pulled me into a slight hug.
I hugged her back and walked out of the classroom, looking pretty smug.

Maybe this won't be that bad after all, I just know I can't get too attached.
But maybe with her, the hole in my heart can be patched.
