“Can we leave? I can’t stand this place...” I said to grandma, now, two-ish months later, I have everything in a moving van that is on its way to my new house. I will admit that leaving my friends would be problematic, but I like being alone. I don’t have many friends to begin with so, all in all, I was fine with it. I just desperately needed to leave that town, the very town my mother had died in a car accident. As stupid as it sounds, I can’t even go down the street my mom died on, not without crying anyway, so thank god grandma agreed on moving.

I hadn’t seen the house yet, Grammy wanted it to be a surprise, but I went down the street it’s on the way home from school once. The only thing I know is that its two stories tall. “It’s an older house” she said, with her shaky voice on the way there. She also said it was furnished, and she was really excited about the bookshelves, because I own quite a few books. It grew after my mom died; my grandma had taken me to an old bookstore to make me feel better. Lost in my thoughts, the car ride flew by. We were parked in front of the house.

We walked in, and grandma was definitely right about it being old. Old furniture scattered the rooms and the wallpaper matched.

“The downstairs bedroom is yours; I’m going to let you do whatever you want to it.” Grandma said as I walked into it. It was big, way bigger than my other one. I warmly smiled at her then pulled her into a hug. She also said that she bought the house, so painting is a go.

“You’re such a creative child, you know that?” grandma says into the hug. I nod and squeeze a bit tighter.

After checking out the whole house, I had to unpack. I hadn’t kept a lot of stuff, just because too much of it reminded me of my mom. I did keep her old blanket and little trinkets I got from her over the years. I pulled out a huge paper clip, almost the size of me, and remembered getting it for Christmas. It was supposed to be a gag gift, but I enjoyed it, like a lot. Unpacking everything and helping my grandma unpack too, we were done. It was late at night when we finished; there were still boxes everywhere, but we got out what we needed for the night. I skipped dinner and went to my new room. It was barren, and cold. I lie in bed, and pictured new poster and new paint on the walls. Soon enough, I fell asleep.
