First known as:
"The Junction", "The Lower Town,"
Or "Manuherikia."
A canvas mining town at first.
Pitched amidst gold fever.
Re-named after a princess,
Sited where the rivers join,
Planted where the lake begins,
Established as men dug for gold,
Iconic clock near mountain peak,
Majestic bridge spans Clutha's deep
Clothed by winter's hoar frost veil.
Cyclists love the Rail Trail.
Enjoyed for fishing, rivers, streams
Awesome lakes yield salmon dreams.
Known for summer's blazing heat!
Famed for fruit so choice and sweet.
Enclosed by hills adorned with thyme,
Aromas from another clime.
Blossom Parade and Festival.
And autumn's golden colours thrill
Marks her beauty and her fame
Reflection of her princess name.
