The house is a lot larger than it looks from the outside.  I wonder how Lou handles living in it by herself.  My room is obviously smaller than Chris’ room because he thought that he deserved the larger room. I honestly didn't really care though.

But it’s a nice room that faces out to the lake with a large window with a window seat.  It has a small twin sized bed with a patterned blanket lain over it.  I drop my duffle at the foot of the bed and walk over to the window seat and sit down.

The lake is huge and has pine trees pretty much surrounding it, but the pine trees on our side of the lake has been thinned out.  The other side is thick with trees.  The lake is pretty much deserted except for a girl pulling a canoe towards her on the dock.  She ties up the canoe and walks down the dock.

I stand up and walk across the hall and peek into Chris’ room.

“Ever heard of privacy, Casey?” Chris grumbles, opening his laptop.

“Ever heard of the outdoors, Chris?” I retort.  I sit down next to him and look at his screen.

“Crap, I forgot to ask Aunt Lou for the WiFi password,” Chris grumbles, closing the lid of his laptop.

“I don’t think you’re just going to come all the way over here just to play some stupid video game,” I quip, “I mean, look outside, there’s a really beautiful lake out there waiting for us to play in it.  Besides it’s your fault that you didn’t ask her.  Why not now?”  I throw my arm out towards my room, gesturing towards the lake.

“Not like you’re out there ‘playing’ in the lake or anything,” Chris points out.

“Shut up, I’m not going to go out there alone.”

I walk into my room, open my duffle and pull out a pair of flipflops.  I slip them on, tossing my sneakers into the corner by the dresser and start walking down the stairs.

“Hey, Lou?”

“Yeah Casey?” Lou calls from her spot, sitting at the kitchen breakfast counter area, which is covered in mounds of papers, with a pen in hand and wearing reading glasses.

She turns to me, “What do you need?” She gives me a funny look before saying, “Oops, need to take these darned reading glasses off.”  She fumbles, pulling the reading glasses off her face and sets them on the table.  “Just got them.  No fun, glasses.”

“Okay, I’m just going to go out the lake, I’m trying to get Chris to come with me,” I pause glancing up the stairs, “But it doesn't seem likely.”

“Okay,” Lou says, “Just don’t get into any trouble.” She winks at me and returns to her work.

I walk out the back door, which leads to the trees that surround the lake.  There is a little worn path of dirt that leads out to the lake.

I walk out into the clearing and the lake laps the beach.  I step up onto the dock, thinking about how stupid it is to be out here on my own, but there isn’t much to do anyways.  I kick off my flip flops and dip my toes into the water.  It’s kind of warm but not in a disgusting way.

I swirl my feet around in the lake, making little whirlpools.  I consider standing up and going back to house, but that would be kind of stupid, considering I just told Lou that I would be out at the lake.

“Hey, you going to use the dock?” I hear a voice call.

I turn around.  It was the girl who was pulling the canoe.

“Uh,” I twist around, scraping my knee against the dock before standing up, “No.”

She tugs the edge of her pink tie dye shirt.
