"Come on, Sal. It's late and cold." Juniper whined as she pulled her coat collar up to her mouth.
"I guess you're right, Junebug. The weather is quite dismal out here." Sal wrapped his arm around Juniper and headed to the nearest gas station.
The fluorescent lights flickered. There was nobody behind the counter. There was a malodorous smell in the air.
"My god! It smells like a butcher's shop in here!" June gagged.
"Hey, it's coming from behind that door." Sal pointed to the back
"What?! No we can't-" June protested, but Sal had already jumped over the counter.
He swung open the door to find a malnourished torso. There was no blood, no stab wounds, no bullet holes. Just a torso.
"My god..." Sal stared in horror at it, frozen in place.
"What?" June made her way to the door-frame, "What's wrong..." She noticed the shriveled, bony, piece of human lying on the cold, tile floor. June let out a terrified shriek, then covered her mouth. "What kind of person would do this..." She whispered, barely audible.
"We should get out of here." Sal started to walk to the door when they heard a clank. A vial, containing an orange liquid, rolled to his feet. "Hmm?" He daintily picked up the vial.
"Sal, put that down. We need to leave!" June begged.
"No, wait. There's a note." Sal tore off the yellow, crumpled up paper and started to read.
A horrible, terrible thing. A malady we have unleashed, yes. We didn't mean to. We were going to improve the world, we thought. But he tricked us. The only person we-
It ended there and was ripped at the bottom. Sal flipped to the back there was a little note:
Worldwide. Stop at all costs. No one is safe.
"What in the world? This must've been one heck of a wackjob!" Sal chuckled and slid the vial into his pocket. "Alright. I'll call the cops, you go ahead and head out."
June nodded slowly, still staring at the torso. She tore out of the store, back into the freezing, winter night.
~ So I remember doing this for a class awhile back with vocab and the word prefix was "mal". This is what I wrote in about thirty minutes.
