"Nichole, what happened?" Riley, Nichole's best friend, asked, reaching up to Nichole's black eye.
"I got hit in the face with a snowball when I was walking down the street yesterday," Nichole states, sipping on her hot cocoa.
"That kid must play baseball," Riley commented, chuckling to herself.
"It wasn't really a kid. She was about our age, and she was really cute. She looked so upset that she hit me instead of her original target," Nichole smiles, swiping her finger through the whipped cream that sat upon the hot cocoa.
Just then the small door bell sounded as a girl walked into the cafe with headphones around her neck and her laptop in her arms.
Nichole glanced at the girl then looked back to her friend.
"Hm, still, I wonder if she plays baseball. You would have to have quite the swing to give someone a black eye from a snowball," Riley said, staring off into space into though, unknowingly staring at the girl who just came in.
Nichole shrugged and looked out the window, sipping her cocoa once more and humming in content happiness.
The girl who had walked in moments ago, received her drink and turned around. Instantly her eyes landed on Nichole.
"You suck at snowball fights," Jamie, Parker's best friend mumbled, as they sat beside each other outside Parker's apartment building.
"Do not," Parker claims, crossing her arms.
"Spoken like a little kid," Jamie states laughing whole heartedly.
"Hey! I'm older than you!" Parker growls, uncrossing her arms giving Jamie a rough shove.
"Doesn't matter, you suck at snowball fights, especially with your aim."
"I'll prove you wrong," Parker mumbles grumpily.
Jamie stood up and walked across the yard, snow crunching under his shoes.
"What are you doing?" Parker questions, watch Jamie.
"Prove me wrong," Jamie states, stopping in a spot and turning around to face Parker, "I'll give you three shots before I fire any. If you hit me once then you prove me wrong and I'll treat you to coffee."
Parker huffed, "How's that going to prove anything. You could easily move at any second causing me to miss."
"I'll. Turn around, then I won't know When they are coming," Jamie states, giving a sinister smile.
"Whatever," Parker says, grabbing some snow and packing it together.
Parker's hands felt frozen in only a few moments seeing as how she had no gloves on, but she continued on, determined to prove her friend wrong.
The first snowball barely skimmed Jamie's shoulder, Jamie's laugh could be heard from across the yard easily.
Parker wouldn't lie, she was getting rather angry that she couldn't prove her friend wrong.
The second snowball hit Jamie directly in the back of the head makings Parker shout out in victory and packed another snowball instantly.
Parker should have payed attention before she threw the snowball. Jamie stepping out of place, the snowball flying straight past him. Parker's aim is good, if she was aiming to hit the girl walking down the street, directly in the face.
"Whoa! You just so nailed her in the face!" Jamie shouted, laughing loudly.
Parker's face fell and she ran over to the girl, stopping right in front of her, offering a hand to help her up from the ground, "I am so sorry miss, I really really am. I hadn't seen you and-"
"It's fine," the girl says, cutting off Parker, "I'm not hurt any, besides, it was all fun and games right?"
"R-right," Parker mumbles, rubbing her neck like an awkward teen, "Uhm, sorry again for nailing you in the face."
The girl waved Parker off as a reply and began continued to walk the direction she was headed. Parker began walking forward to Jamie when she stepped on a piece of ice and lost her balance, falling straight down. Jamie, who had calmed down at the previous incident, once again burst into laughter. The girl glanced back to see that Parker was on the ground, holding her left wrist.
"Uhm, excuse me?" Parker said, tapping Nichole on her shoulder with her right hand, the other holding her drink and laptop.
"Yes?" Nichole asks, looking at Parker, "Oh, it's you."
"Yeah, uhm, I'm still really sorry about what happened the other day, my friend and I were messing around, and I totally wish I'd seen you so that I could have waited for you to pass-"
"Like I said, don't worry about it, I'm fine," Nichole states with a soft smile.
Parker goes to continue saying 'I'm sorry's' but stops when Nichole waves her finger to say no. Parker sighs instead looks at Nichole.
"What's your name?" Parker asks.
"Nichole."
"I'm Parker."
Nichole smiles at the name and nods, "Nice to meet you, Parker, I hope you didn't hurt yourself too bad."
"Nice to meet you, too, Nichole, I'm fine. Once again I'm sorry for hitting you, maybe I can treat you to lunch sometime to make up for it," Parker suggests.
"Maybe if we see each other again I'll except your offer, but for now I'm going to pass," Nichole says softly.
Parker nods and turns, walking away from the table and sitting at an empty booth, instantly opening her laptop and starting whatever she was working on.
"She looks like she plays baseball," Riley says, surprising Nichole.
"Riley, if you're so damn interested to know if she does or not, why don't you go ask," Nichole states, holding her hand over her heart, glaring at Riley.
"Or you can ask her next time you see her, you did after all see her yesterday and again today. Maybe you'll see her tomorrow," Riley states.
"Maybe," Nichole replies, sipping on her cocoa again and looking at Parker with a small smile on her face.
'She probably doesn't play baseball, she's too soft for it,' Nichole thinks to herself, finishing her cocoa and leaving with Riley.
