There are a lot of things in my life that I'm certainly not thankful for.
Like how my office door creaks whenever it opens, how loud this stupid person who shares an office room with me, how demanding my boss is, or how irritatingly sweet these goddamn couples on this office.
In short, everything is just... so annoying.
"Oh god, this is so tiring!" Jenna exclaimed while wiping an invisible sweat on her forehead using the back of her hand. "I mean, I am so happy that I got promoted but I will be missing this office so much."
I forced my face to show a tight-lipped smile but I'm guessing it turned out to be a grimace as I tried to stop myself from telling her "Good riddance".
"Hey, cheer up Maddie! Don't be sad just because I'm leaving. I'll make sure we'll still see each other."
What the hell?
Yeah Jenna, I am so sad because you were finally leaving. I am so sad because lastly, I will have this room for myself. There's no need for me to put my earplugs because of your horrible songs. I can finally breathe fresh air without being suffocated by your fart-smelling excuse of a perfume. And no one will bug me just to talk about the newest bag or shoes that you have purchased from god knows where.
Yes, I am so sad.
I croaked a "Yeah" before shuffling the pile of papers placed on my table. This lady is ridiculous. If I am so full of myself, Jenna is way too bloated. I'm just finally thankful that she's leaving. Though I am not as pleased just like everyone about her promotion. I've been doing better than her but she seemed to have the promotion sooner than me. Who knows? She may have let our boss fuck her so she earned the promotion.
Whatever it is, I don't really give a damn. As long as she's leaving, I'll be fine.
"Thanks boys!" Jenna screeched as three men went out of the room carrying three large boxes containing her stuff. She followed suit, carrying a small box which holds the last cluster of her office supplies.
"Bye Maddie," she leaned on my table and pulled me into a quick hug. I automatically muttered a 'What the fuck' but thankfully she was so stupid not to hear it. "I will surely miss you. You are always welcome in my office, okay? Feel free to visit me anytime. I heard the AC works splendid there compared here."
I glanced at my office's vintage looking AC then back to Jenna's face. So she's trying to say that her AC is better than mine? Do I look like I care?
"Gee thanks." I said sarcastically then forced a laugh.
She then again smiled sweetly at me and I must admit that at this point it was already sickening. "Don't worry you'll not be alone for long. I heard some new hire will be replacing my desk here."
"What!?"
Jenna gave me a questioning look. "What's with that look? You should be happy! You'll be making new friends!"
Oh my god, I am so happy. I thought I already have the room for myself but surprise, surprise. Believe me, I am so happy.
"Oh yes, I love making new friends." I deadpanned. "So if I were you, I will go now. Off you go and make new friends at your new office."
Like the ever gullible she is, Jenna giddily exited the room and for the umpteenth time I heard the stupid door creak. Next time I saw the facilities I will make sure they will have it fixed for me.
Remembering what she just mentioned earlier, I inwardly scoff. Some new hire, huh? Replacing her desk here? Psssh, not so fast. This office is mine. I can't afford another Jenna in this room when she just left.
Focusing back on my computer, I hovered the cursor to an email from my boss with the subject title of DEADLINE: TODAY.
It's going to be a long day.
*
By the time I finished the report that my boss asks me to do within the day, it was already past lunch time. It was tiring yes; I can feel it on how much my neck produced a crunchy sound when I do a 360° head rotation. Nevertheless, imagine my joy when I am about to click on the send button.
It was life-changing.
I leaned my back on my comfy chair as I plopped both of my legs on top of my desk. Not worrying about a bothersome woman named Jenna who will give me an earful about professional etiquette. Professional etiquette can screw itself. I don't need that.
I give it a good five minutes before I stepped back on my pumps. Grabbing my purse under the table, I checked myself on my mirror before going out for a late lunch. I really am starving.
I decided to crash in the building's cafeteria for lunch. It is nearer plus they offer ice cold lattes. Who doesn't love that?
I quickly placed my order as the waiter scrambled on his notepad. I gave him a lazy look when he placed the menu on my table. I've been eating here for the past couple of months. No need for that, new-o.
When he finally left to fetch my order, I looked around the place just to check if there is something worth my attention aside from the meal that will be arriving on my table soon.
And luckily, there is.
He is definitely a new face. Clad in a navy blue polo shirt with both of its sleeves rolled up and a dark blue satin necktie, I have to admit he looks hot. Plus, the light stubble and goatee that was very visible from afar, he looks delicious.
Can I please have him for my lunch instead?
My ogling was cut short when the waiter finally arrived and placed the meal in front of me. I gave him a quick glare but he was giving me the bright smile in return. Stop it, you psycho.
"Anything else ma—"
"No. Thanks for your service." I sluggishly said, not bothering to glance at his direction.
I ate in total silence, but glancing at this hottie from time to time. Before I managed to finish this meal, I told myself that there is no way that this guy will not notice me. So by the time I'm done, I took the long route towards the door so he will surely notice me. I made sure that my hips are swaying in a sensual manner, my heels clacking against the concrete floor which is truly a music to my ears.
I glanced over my shoulder just to check him and voila, he was already eyeing from my heels up to my head.
Not so long when our eyes met, he looked a little surprised when I caught him staring. I send him a wink while plastering a smirk on my face. His face reddens and I took that as my cue to leave.
We are not yet done, Mr. Red face.
