Some say the cemetery is creepy, others say it’s haunted, but I say it’s peaceful and quiet. Every time I feel lonely and depressed, I come here to the cemetery to see the beauty of the trees and the lake and feel the peacefulness of it all. Never have I thought that this is the last time seeing the serenity of the cemetery. After today, I’m going to a new town full of people like me.

Just as I’m starting to enjoy myself, I hear footsteps disturbing the peace and quiet. “I knew I’d find you here. Hiding from everyone, are we?” That is the voice that belonged to my father.

“Oh, hey dad. What are you doing here? You don’t even like cemeteries.”

“I know, but I have to come and get you, so that you can pack your things. You’re going to a boarding school.”

“Boarding school? Dad, I thought I just finished school in December last year.” I protested, I really didn’t like going back to school, but who does?

“Yes, boarding school…ok, more like a boarding university. You won’t need to hide anymore. Not while you’re there.” My father is trying his best to convince me to go.

“But dad, I like hiding from people. Don’t like a noisy house either. The triplet is driving me mad, and the cemetery is the only place I don’t feel left out. And mom is here, remember?” I reminded my father. It seems he had forgotten all about my weird dark side that I try so hard to keep hidden from everyone. I successfully kept it hidden until my mother died in a car accident last year.

“Yes of course I know, but you still have to go pack your things, your ride will be here in 2 hours. And I don’t want you to be late.”

“One last look please dad. I hate leaving mom without saying goodbye.”

“Sure, but please hurry up. You know your brothers will call and drive us both crazy.” My father has a point. Whenever my dad leaves the house for more than an hour, my brothers will call him none stop asking him, is he going to be gone longer.

“Thanks dad.” I walked to my mother’s burial site. My father accompanied me and when I got there, I see a dark and unfriendly spirit hanging over my mother’s grave. “You’ll never be as good as the chosen one”.

“What do you mean, I’ll never be as good as the chosen one? Whose spirit are you anyway? I don’t know you.”

“Who are you talking to? There is no one else here but you and me Camilla.”

“No dad, we’re not. Someone’s Spirit is blocking me from talking to mom.” My father gave me an ‘Are-you-crazy’ look, like he always does when I talked to spirits.

“Sorry I forgot you can talk to people’s spirits. That is a weird thing to do, you know that right?” My father walked up to me, putting his hand on my shoulder to let me know he still loves me no matter what and who I am.

I nodded to my father and turned back to my mother’s grave. The dark and unfriendly spirit is gone and my mother’s spirit is hanging here. “Hey mom, I just wanted to say goodbye. Dad is sending me to a boarding university with more people like me. I just wanted to let you know what is going on so that you won’t worry about me beyond your grave.” She nodded at me and disappeared like vapour in the sunlight.

“Camilla is she gone?”

“Yes dad, she is. And she gave me her approval. And dad, what is the name of the university I’m going to?” I’ve been wondering about that.

“It’s called Dark Sanity. It’s more like a high school than a university.”

“Oh great! What is going on? First it’s a university and now it’s more of a high school? You have got to be kidding me!?”

As the thoughts go through my mind, we went to my father’s car. We drove in silence with some music playing on the radio. At least we didn’t drive in total silence. A few minutes later we pulled up into the drive way with 3 identical concerned and worried faces waiting for us at the front door of the house.

“You were at the cemetery, weren’t you Camilla?” Adrian, the middle brother asked.

“Yes I have and move it, I have to go and pack my stuff. I’m leaving soon, then you’ll be rid of me for a year.”

“I hate it when you can go places and we can’t.” Michael moaned, the brother on the left.

“Now boys, your sister has her responsibilities and she’s older than you. If it makes you feel better, she’s going to a boarding university.”

“I’m going to miss you Camilla.” The last of the brothers Leroy hugged me. Then the others joined in, then they moved out of the way so that I can go to my room and start packing. It took me 45 minutes to pack everything I need and I have 2 large bags plus my vanity case.

I went to the kitchen and my father had made my favourite, chicken hearts fried in butter and garlic and some fluffy mashed potatoes.

Leroy gave me one look. “Are you really wearing that to the university? Isn’t it a little extreme?”

I looked at my clothes and I see nothing wrong, a black tang top, and a 3 quarter sleeve cropped denim jacket, grey shorts with a chain belt and a pair of black flat boots. “What do you mean, it’s a little extreme Leroy? I don’t see anything wrong.”

“I don’t mean your clothes, those are fine. I mean your make-up, it’s really more on the dark side and dramatic.” He complained.

“Oh really, since when did you became an expert?”

“You know Leroy, every time our sister dress and wear her make-up a certain way, you think it’s extreme, but you never see the whole picture. She looks great to me.” For once Michael had a point. Just as he said that our father gave us our supper.

I wasn’t in any rush to finish my supper, but then I looked at the kitchen clock and I see I only have 10 minutes left before my bus gets here. So I finished the last of my supper with 5 minutes to spare and went to wait outside for the bus.

5 minutes later the bus and we said our goodbyes. Father helped me load my luggage unto the bus. “Whatever you do, please be safe. I don’t want anything bad happen to you.”

“Don’t worry dad. Nothing is going to go wrong. I promise.” And with that, I gave my dad one last hug and then I’m off about to have an adventure – hopefully.
