Light in the City
Her wavy brown hair
How I loved that hair
Her jacket falling down her arms
Her sunglasses in her hair
That amazing hair
She infatuated me
She took my breath with every step
I could feel my heart beating faster.
Faster.
Faster.
Something about being with her
Reminded me I was still young
The way she would turn around
whenever I walked too slow for her
She'd walk backwards for a couple steps
Then slow so I could catch up
I knew she'd never leave me
Even when I was losing her
She always found her way back
Back.
Back.
Until she saw the lights
She would recite her favorite quote
"all my dreams and all the lights
mean nothing if i can't have you."
I knew she wasn't thinking of me
She was thinking about the lights
The way the light helped her glow
Gave her comfort
She didn't need help, though
I told her that
That she was my light, my world
But she wouldn't listen
I was losing her faster
Faster.
Faster.
I was losing her to the light that would soon leave me in darkness
It just wasn't meant to be
