"There's no easy way for me to say this..." She began looking off to the complete stranger giving him an impish smile. I looked at the two of them confused but not really confused. I could already hear the next words she was about to say. The ring was burning on top of my skin.
I glanced down at it. Pretty. The ring that is. It seems to always catch a source of light to glisten it's way into my eyes. I'm here! I'm here! I bite down and pulled my hand away.
She doesn't take any notice and placed her hand on the stranger's knee. "Dolen, We're getting married!" She squeals hugging the man.
For a moment I completely forgot how to breathe. The busy airport was silenced and my world turned black. At that time the puppet master's strings were stalled. All movement was forgotten.
"Dolen?"
The puppet master tipped at the nose of his instrument and the act was continued. "Woah, mom, that amazing!" She nods excitedly tackling me into a hug she pulls away. "And that's not even the best part!" She goes on about the big house by the clichéd lake. His enormous some of money, his business, but all I could hear is the blood pounding in my ear.
Buh Bump
Buh Bump
Buh Bump.
.......
"Home sweet home." Mom says smiling brightly looking through the window at a three floor house I never seen in my life. The puppet master tipped a string making his puppet smile.
"It beautiful." I say to the stranger, Bryan, he just shrugs scratching the back of his head.
"It's basically a heirloom just polished up. Soon when I grow old it would be passed to you." He says sighing. I hummed and watched mom. She was walking up the stairs with heels that probably came with a danger label and a dress that I would've kept the recipt of.
"So Dolen, how do you feel about this whole arrangement?" I looked up at him.
"Honestly, Bryan. I feel completely fine about all of this. I gotta visit some old friends of mind. I'll try to make it back before dinner."
.....
This was it, under some unfinished bridge was where all the toxicated, druggies, and even the virgins-no-more dance. I breathed it all in deeply. "Now this is home, sweet home." I mummer. It was a two hour trip but it was all worth it. I had one person I had to see to make sure this world isn't as upside down as I thought it was.
"Well look what we got here. I would've went to the airport with you but ya know." An old friend calls out. I smiled bumping elbows.
"It's whatever I understand." His eyes wander over to my ride.
"So you found out about Daddy Warbucks." It wasn't a question so I didn't answer. "Damn that sucks. Coming home and find out that your mommy been spreading her legs for cash since you were gone."
"My mom is not a prositute,Derek." He put his hands up and I rolled my eyes finally feeling like my old self now that the puppet master dropped his toy.
"I'm just saying, I don't got much but if your mom wants to get it with a real man-"
"What? You're not talking about that cheeto you keep in your pants, are you?" I asked walking towards the cooler picking out a beer.
He snickers taking a long drag from his joint."Last time I checked that cheeto kept you up all night." He blows the smoke in my face and l laugh poping the cap off the head of the bottle.
"I think you got that one flipped."
"Willing to jog my memory?" I smirked taking a big gulp as I swallow a huge amount of beer feeling it sting my throat as it pass down.
"Sure thing."
