"Skye this is stupid."
"Ugh, no it's not, Sabre. Quit complaining."
"What's even the point of this? I don't see a reason."
"Hey, this idea is better than yours! Besides, a 'bush' is not a home."
I don't understand why Skye wouldn't just give it a rest. I may be the only stray out there who actually doesn't want to get adopted, but that's no reason to bring me into her backyard. "Well, it's where I sleep, isn't it?"
Skye rolled her eyes at me, "At least try to help yourself."
That's the thing, Skye has been trying to convince me to let her owner adopt me for years, or at least get me to walk up to a no-kill shelter. Personally, I prefer the woods. Nature calls me.
Skye turned and walked away, her blue collar glistening in the midday sunshine. She padded towards a broken branch, and snapped a stick off of it.
"Yeah, like I'm ever gonna get you to use your head." She then threw the stick towards the woods, and we both raced after it.
To be honest, Skye is the only family that I really have. I don't know much about my past, other than the fact that either someone dumped me off or my parents were really big losers. That is sort of the reason I don't want a human family of my own, I'm afraid they won't love me and I'll end up like one of the poor euthanized dogs at the pound. I know that Skye is obviously loved very much by her people, but I just don't have that much trust.
Skye looked at me with an awkward look on her face and a slobbery stick stuck in her mouth "Sabre, really? That was the saddest race yet!"
"Oh, sorry. I was...........uh" I didn't want to say 'daydreaming', that sounds like something a pup would say. "To busy beating you to the river!" Yeah, like I would ever let her purposefully win. Because all of the other times she's won races were TOTALLY NOT ACCIDENTS. I just let her win because, um, totally because I'm the BESTEST FRIEND EVER.
Yeah, that's believable enough.
