The morning is probably my favourite time of day. I know it's normal to hate the morning, but I love it. It's the only time of day when I don't get judged for drinking coffee. It's 6am, I've only been up for a half hour, but I'm already on my third cup of coffee, senior year = more coffee than you've ever thought you could handle. I live with just my mum; she works night shifts at the hospital so I another reason why I like to get up earlier than I need is so I can see her before I go to school and before she goes to bed.  We're pretty close, my mum and I. Even though the only time we get to see each other for majority of the day is on her days of (Saturdays) and even then, we have to sleep during the day and stay awake at night so that she can keep her sleeping schedule proper for her next work shift. My mums name is Emily, mine is Rian, she likes the whole concept of unisex names, everyone told her that she couldn't name me Rian because it was a boy's name, but she ignored them, she's stubborn as you could probably tell. I like my name, it makes me diverse from any other girl named 'Britany', 'Tiffany' or 'Jessica'. Those are all nice names, but they're the most girly names that I can think of and I'm so glad I wasn't named with a girly name.

I walk over to the kettle so I could make some more coffee when my mum stumbles through the door, tired as always.

"Hey sweet cheeks." – Emily

"You know that couples call each other sweet cheeks, not mothers and daughters, right?" – Rian

"Yeah okay whatever, sweet cheeks." – Emily

She winks and walks over and gives me a hug.

"I'm gonna head off to bed, what time do you get out of school? I'll set an alarm." – Emily

"I finish at 1 today, but I might stay back to do some work, so I'll probably be home around 3:30, if not, I'll text you." – Rian

"Alright bub, I'll see you later" – Emily

"See you later." – Rian

Mum pulls herself up the stairs and I can hear her footsteps until she plomps herself on the bed. I don't know if 'plomp' is a word, but I'm gonna use it anyway. I decide not to make my fourth cup of coffee and to just get ready for school.

After my shower, I pick out my clothes. Black jeans with rips at the knees and a red shirt that says 'don't be sad' across it with white font. I have short pixie cut hair so all I do is brush it, and lastly, black converse, because I literally have no other shoes. Even though the red shirt sort of clashes with my hair, I still wear it. My hair used to be bright red, but it washed out into a sort of rose gold colour.

By the time I've finished getting dressed and ready, make up on and ready to conquer the world with my highlighter (the make-up kind), it's 8am, so I head off to school. It's around a 15-minute walk from my house, so it's sort of my daily exercise. I have a car and my license, but my mum refuses to let me drive it to and from school because she also believes that it's my daily exercise.

"It's about time! I've been waiting here forever!" – Laine

"Laine, it's 8:15, we have a half hour until school actually starts." – Rian

"I know, but you know my mother, she likes me to be here at 8, so I've been a loner for 15 minutes, I hope you're happy." – Laine

"Next time, I'll think about what I do and how it affects you." – Rian

"Thank you! That's all I ask!" – Laine

Now I know Laine sounds like a bitch, but this is the way we talk to each other, we like to be sarcastic and humorous in our conversations, so if you're new to talking with us, you'll think we're passive aggressive arguing. I mean, I guess that Laine is very judgmental, but so are most people.

"I don't have a class, what do you have?" – Rian

"I have art. Come sit with me!" – Laine

"Yeah okay." – Rian

We start walking to the art classrooms. They're on the other side of the school, which is reckoning for me. I hate walking when I don't have to. I don't have to go with Laine, but she wants me to so I guess I'll be a good friend.

"Have you asked your mum about coming camping with us?" – Laine

"Huh?" – Rian

"Camping, with Riley, Jade, Parker, Finn and I?" – Laine

"Uh, no I haven't" – Rian

I don't even want to go camping with them. I hate dirt and the outdoors, and she knows that, but she's still bugging the heck out of me.

"Why not!? You said you'd ask! Parker really wants you to go!" – Laine

Fuck Parker, he's a big boy, he can deal with not getting his own way this one time.

"So?" – Rian

"So! He likes you! And he's super-hot, AND he is in a BAND!" – Laine

"I don't care if he's in a band, he's rude to everyone." -Rian

"Everyone except you." – Laine

"Yes, everyone except me, which makes me dislike him even more." – Rian

"RIANN" – Laine

"What?" – Rian

"This is your chance, to finally get a boyfriend! It's your senior year! You neeeeed one!" – Laine

"I do not need one, especially if he's going to be an ass." – Rian

"You're so difficult." – Laine

"That's why you love me." – Rian
