The park was empty, the scent of fresh rain still lingered in the area. Cass had his emerald eyes locked on his handbook, yet he was not reading. His eyes were not even moving to follow along the words, he just stared. His head was filled with the idea that he was not worth anything, his life meant nothing. Everyone dreamt of immortality, living forever meant you had all the time in the world, making mistakes was hardly something to worry about. Nobody understood what it really meant to have the curse of immortality upon their shoulders. The idea clouded his mind further and further until his grip on the book labelled "Mille manières de te tuer" became tighter. The title was in French, it translated to, "1000 ways to kill yourself". The man's shoulders trembled, he started to feel the discomfort of fear and isolation. He thought about what his purpose if living could possibly be. Then, the feeling suddenly faded, a gust of wind blowing his coal colored locks to the side, he heard a soft voice in the background asking why he was reading such a vulgar book. Cass had finally remembered to breathe and switched his gaze to the unfamiliar being in front of him. He was dressed in a warm tan coat, black pants and rain boots, his hood hid the locks of golden-brown hair and shaded his ocean-blue eyes. It felt like he was seeing a ray of sunlight for the first time in decades.

"Huh?" Cass looked up in bewilderment as he looked at the man who resembled a warm sunlight.

The man chuckled.

"Why in a rush to end your life?" The man asked, giving a calm smile. Cass stayed silent.

"Not much of a talker, I see." He added.

"Lurking in other people's business, I see.." Cass proclaimed, he shot a glare towards the male, the man chuckled.

"You got me there, buddy." He came closer to the bench, leaning forward to meet with Cass' eyes.

"May I sit?" He asked, prepared for some sort of rejection.

Cass slid himself to the side, making room on the bench he sat upon. "What do you want? You're bothering me." Cass stated bluntly. The other man smiled, mentally hurt by the harsh honesty he had received.

"Ah.. I assumed you could use some company." He took his eyes off of Cass and moved his gaze to the floor. Cass went silent, slowly processing the compassion currently being inclined, it had been a long time since he's felt any sort of compassion from another human, the main cause being that he avoided it. He shot a glare towards the unknown man It took time to find his answer, but he spoke,

"Even if I did, why would you waste the effort..?" Cass asked, now genuinely annoyed by the man's presence. The other male couldn't find an answer for the question, he was at loss for words. There was hardly an explanation for the reason, he made it up as he proceeded to answer.

"Well, I guess I just.. Felt drawn to you? I tend to get really upset when I see people looking so worried." He sighed and reclined against the back of the bench.

Cass gripped the book once again, his lower lip began to quiver as he suddenly stood up, he packed his book away into his backpack and swung it over his shoulder. He refused to get involved with another person, he refused to gain feelings for another human. Not again..

"Are you leaving?" The man asked, conducting concern. Cass gave a silent nod as he gripped the straps of the backpack, taking his leave.

"Wait!" The man shouted, Cass slowed unintentionally, the sound of shoes against wet grass and mud was the only warning before Cass was held back by the metal piece of his backpack zipper. He stopped. The tears began to fall rapidly.

"My name is Vixen. Can I have yours?"

Cass clenched his teeth and managed to choke out a quick "Cass." before he yanked the zipper free from the other male, Vixen's name burned itself into his mind as he ran down the sidewalk, as far as he could from the park. He couldn't contain the painful liquid that fell from his eyes any longer.
