It was the cool, dewy dawn of the morning. I slowly slipped out of bed and into my slippers to cover my feet from the cold hardwood. I peeked through the door to make sure no one else was up. When I was sure it was clear, I tiptoed my way through the hallway and down towards the stairs. With every step of my feet on the stairs the weary old wood would creak. However, I knew all of the right spots to step in order to make as little noise as possible. When I reached the bottom after what seemed like an eternity I ran towards the door and grabbed my coat hanging on the dining room chair. I threw it around me and grabbed my pink hat with the poofy ball on top and put that on as well. I opened the front door and saw the world, still asleep. Perfect, I was just on time! I stepped outside and gently closed the door behind me. The chilly air blew on my face and I breathed it in. It sent chills down my spine. I stepped into the darkness and slowly started making my way towards my family's apple orchard. When I arrived I stood for a moment beneath the trees that seemed to tower over me. Just as I was standing under one a strong breeze came and wiggled an apple loose which fell right into my hands. It was the most perfect apple I had ever seen! I decided to take it with me on my journey. I walked through the trees and it almost seemed as I was walking through a ginormous forest! For a 6 year old, it was definitely a long trek to my destination. After walking for a while, I saw it. There she was, as beautiful as always. Standing alone from the others on the top of the hill. This hill, higher than others, overlooked the other rolling hills of Wisconsin. My favorite apple tree, peaked right on top of this hill. She was amazing...
I ran to the base of the tree and started climbing. I climbed all the way to the top and sat on the thickest limb of the tree. I was right on time, as always. I grabbed my apple in order to enjoy while watching the horizon, waiting. Then it happened, the first beam of light broke through the darkness. Following the first beam, many others followed and filled the sky with many amazing colors. Orange, purple and pink hues covered the sky and I was in awe. The morning sunrise, my piece of heaven. I was smiling so hard my cheeks started to hurt! I looked down at my apple and took a bite. It was delicious. I looked back up, leaned on the tree and watched the sunrise make the night sky disappear. My name is Abigail Greyson and this is my story.
