I slowly blink my eyes open. My head throbs as I slowly try to get up. My long powder blue hair covers my face like a veil. I grip my chest where it was sliced open by a blade. Blood stains my armor and I'm surprised I survived at all. I manage to stand up halfway before my legs collapse and my hands get slammed into the hard ground. I hiss in pain and raise my hand to look at my palm. A small rock managed to pierce through the tough fabric around my hand and was now stained with blood, my blood. I sigh angrily before looking around me. My eyes go wide as I take in the sight. The ground is burnt black and covered in dried blood, bodies litter the ground and I hold back tears as I recognize many as friends. In the distance I can see the ruins of what looks to be Phoenix Drop. Memories flash through my mind as I slowly recall what happened here.

I was standing on the walls on Phoenix Drop looking out at the approaching shadow knight army. Aphmau was at my side, her grip on her sword tighter than it should be. The wind was blowing strong, a storm approaching. Aaron...no, Shad stood at the front, leading the army onward towards us. Aphmau fought back a sob as she looked at her lover. I went over to her and gave her a hug. I whispered in her ear that it would be alright, and that we were doing this to protect those we loved. I started to pull back but she refused to let go. She sobbed into my shoulder and I let her, crying softly as well. Eventually she pulled away still sobbing softly. I wiped away the tears that were falling down her face before gently placing a soft kiss on her lips. It ended all too soon as someone called my name. I gave Aphmau a small smile before leaving to lead the army to battle. I did not know then, but that was the last time I would see Aphmau alive.
Soon I was engaged in battle against a shadow knight. They were strong, but so was I. It was an equal battle as we both went full out on each other, weapons clashing left and right. I knew Aphmau was out there somewhere. The need to protect her fueled me to end the battle I was in. I jumped back, about to charge forward to stab the shadow knight in the chest when a loud scream echoed through the air. I turned, my eyes wide. That was Aphmau's scream. Fire began to rain from the sky. Screams filled my ears as I watched people get burned alive. Shadow knights danced leaving a trail of death behind them. I watched the people I trusted get torn apart by the sharp blades before their lifeless forms fell to the ground, their last look of terror still frozen on their faces. The shadow knight I was fighting took advantage of me being distracted and charged at me, their blade cut through my armor, slicing my chest open. I screamed as my body was thrown back from the force of the attack. My head was cut open by a rock as I landed on the ground, rolling a few feet before finally coming to a stop. My vision was spinning and blurry, darkness closing in. Blood spilled out from my wounds as I lightly sobbed. Somehow at that moment I knew Aphmau was dead, and all I wanted was to join her in death.

I lift a hand to my face to find that I'm crying. I slowly rise to my feet and look out towards the ruins of Phoenix Drop. I start to walk over to the only home I have ever known. I try to ignore the bodies of those I cared for but find myself sobbing. I know I am the only survivor of this disaster. I know I have no home, no friends, no love, no family, and no purpose. I wish I did not wake up. I walk alone towards the village I swore to protect. Once I get there I lean against the unstable stone wall of one of the destroyed buildings, not caring if it collapses and I fall. I slide down the wall and sit on the ground, pulling my knees to my chest and lowering my head. Why me? Why do I have to live in this world of pain? Why can't I just be with the one I love?

Hey guys! So this is the first chapter of a short story that will probably have 1 or 2 more chapters. If it is unclear this is from the point of view of Katelyn. (Yes, Katemau don't judge me. >.<) Paragraphs 2 and 3 are a flashback if that wasn't clear but I hope it was. This takes place after Season 3 of Minecraft Diaries. (Sorry if this doesn't make since with Season 3. This was posted when only 2 episodes of it were out.) From what I've seen I'm expecting a war between the Nether and Phoenix Drop so this is afterwards if things had a turn for the worse. I chose Katelyn to be the survivor because I love her and I feel like it would work best with her character. Next chapter should be out sometime this week. Thank you all for reading and have a wonderful day! <3
