The Call

"Beep beep!"

The phone buzzed beside Trent, willing him to wake up. He pushed the hair out of his eyes, and sat on the end of his bed, contemplating if he should go back to sleep.

"Stupid 8 am class...."

College life was getting to him the farther he went into the semester. However, he wanted to succeed, so he pushed through the haze of the early morning to get ready.

English class was as boring as ever. The teacher assigned a paper due in a few days, plus some other smaller assignments. The best place for him to retire to after class was the student lounge, where he could rant to his friends about the work piled on him.

Only his friend Christie was in the lounge at the time, and she waved to him.

"I can't believe it....I've got three papers to write now!" She looked flustered and ready to punch Trent in the face if he tried to make a joke.

He decided to stay quiet.

A quick glance at the clock hanging above a doorway in the lounge provided the time.

"So much time to spare...." Trent said to himself aloud.

Almost as if on cue, his phone lit up and a strange number appeared on the screen. He was receiving a call.

"Now?"

Trent answered the call and put the phone up to his ear.

"Yes?"

"This is he..."

Christie looked at Trent's confused expression on his face.

"Well I do need work..."

The conversation soon ended, and he hung up the phone.

Christie spoke up.

"What was that all about?" She questioned.

"I'm receiving more information in the mail....some strange job offer."

Christie scoffed.

"Alright, whatever floats your boat."

Trent drove home, tired from the day of classes he had to endure. Walking in the door, he immediately went to his room and flopped down onto his bed.

"I'm so done for today."

A few moments later, a folder was slid under his bedroom door.

"You've got mail." His mom's voice sounded from the other side of the door.

"Wow.....faster than I thought." Trent was a bit baffled as he picked up the folder, heavy and felt important.

"Surely it couldn't be the agency already?" But to his surprise, the agency name was printed on the address label. He remembered giving his address to the agency, but didn't expect anything to come from it.

Opening the folder carefully, a few papers were visible inside. The first one he pulled out had a strange logo with bold letters underneath that read clearly.

"SUCCESS IS THE ONLY OPTION."

"What could that mean....?" He placed that piece of paper onto his bed, and pulled out a form that seemed to be a legal document.

Skimming it over, he deduced it was a simple form that needed to be signed to take on the job.

"No job interview, huh?"

He smiled and read the last document. This one gave him information on  where to go next.

"I guess I can go after class tomorrow."

The address was familiar, and he knew it would lead him to an old industrial building in town.

"Seems a bit suspicious....."

He decided not to tell his parents about it until he had at least gone and checked the place out. After all, he was a college student who needed to make his own decisions.
