The Survivors Of Vault 111

The Search

I awoke.. From cryo sleep. My son was taken away, and my wife was missing from her pod.

I have no idea where she is, or if she's even alive... But I hope.

As I ventured across the wasteland I've made many friends. And my old pal Codsworth is still in one piece. The first bit of good news I had received since I got out of that frozen prison cell. 

It's been months since I've started to try and find my wife. Me and nick have been hard at work.. We've asked about her in DiamondCity, Goodneighbor. But with no luck..

Everyday I start to fear more and more that this is a waste of time. Maybe, I should focus on aiding the other settlements in the commonwealth instead. But I can't bear the thought that somewhere out there... Is Sage. Lost, and afraid.. I won't give up, I can't.

Nick and I were walking through an abandoned part of the city. It was so.. Quiet.

Which is unusual for the part of the world we were in. Maybe I'm too used to seeing a ghoul or two..but it is unlikely. 

"Strange.. There's usually a caravan that runs through here." Nick said as he looked onward. "How do you know that ?" I asked him.. "I used to buy ammo from them and what not. We should be cautious.." 

Nick and I proceeded through the streets. 

As we got close to one of the buildings, my nose was defiled by an awful smell. Using the smell as a guide. I led nick to a house, he opened the door, and inside were fresh mutilated corpses left by... Something. " my god..." Nick said while frowning. " I guess we found the source of the smell.." I said. " you certainly did. This is the caravan. Doesn't look like they stood a chance. Whoever, or whatever did this might still be near by." Nick turned around and faced me. He stared at me like he was expecting me to say something. "So what should we do ?" I asked him. "Well it's your call. I'd follow you to the end friend. But If you want my advice ? Let's head back home. Whatever did this is most likely very big, and very deadly."

"I say we keep going." "No offense.. But why ? What is it you expect to find ? I know you hope to find your wife, but what makes you think she's here ?" Nick argued. 

"I don't. Sigh.. But someone said they'd seen a woman out here before. They said she had bright blonde hair." "We won't find her if we're dead Asher.." He said.

Though I hated admitting it. "Your right nick.." The fact was.. We were not equipped to fight a death claw. That's what I figured was out here.. Nick walked upto me and placed one of his hands on my shoulders and said "well find her I promise." I nodded in response. 

Then I walked up to the caravans Brahmin. It's how they carried all their goods. I opened one of the sacks and found a wedding band. On the inside were the initials SO. My eyes widened as I had the revolutionary discovery that she had been here. "Nick." I yelled in amazement. Running over he asked "What Is it, find anything good ?" "It's her wedding ring.. Look, It even has her initials." Taking the ring from my hand. Nick gave it a careful look over. "Well I'll be.. She must've been here recently." He said while letting out a happy chuckle. I stood up from kneeling and said "Then we're on the right track." "I certainly think so." Nick added.

Then suddenly I heard a deep rumbling. And foot stomps approaching. 

Then...we saw it as it stepped from the shadows. A death claw. 

The death claw made a run for us but we managed to take cover in a building nearby.

I tapped nick on the shoulder and said I had a plan. "Well let's hear it."

A few minutes later. 

Nick ran out to distract the beast as I made a run for the Brahmin. I lunged for the Brahmin. Riffling through the bags hanging on the body. I found a missile launcher. And at that moment the death claw had smacked nick into a wall and turned its focus to me. It started charging as I loaded the one and only missile.. Bringing the sights up I took aim. It was getting closer, I placed my finger on the trigger and fired. The rocket hit the creatures head. And it exploded into a bunch of bits.. After it had collapsed on the ground I ran over to nick.. He had a scratch on his chest but nothing serious. I helped him up and said "let's head somewhere safe."

The next day.

I was hammering down a bent piece of steel. I was attempting to fashion a fitting for a door. It was hot, and I couldn't be any sweatier. Out of the corner of my eye. I saw a glimpse of a shiny silver ball coming towards me. It was Codsworth. He approached me to ask "Mister Asher. Is that another piece for the door ?" I stopped after one final swing, and answered. "Yes.." I was exhausted. Been working all day, and It was kind of my way of coping with the bad things that happened. "Sir, you seem famished. Here have a nice cold purified water." 

"Thank you Codsworth. I could use a drink." I said. "How fares your search for mrs ?"

"I think we have a lead. We found her ring." I barely could keep the smile from breaking on my face. "That's wonderful news sir. Soon you'll have her back" Codsworth said in such a joyful tone. And then Codsworth left me to do the final touches on the door.

Later that day. 

I picked up the door and moved it over to the hole in the wall that I wanted to place it in. "Ok sturges." I signaled a fellow settler to tighten the bolts down so it wouldn't fall on us all. After it was finished sturges turned to me and said. "Well, that looks better." with a cheap grin. "It better... I slaved over that thing." He chuckled.

At that moment Nick approached me to give me a rundown on the ring. "Hello."

He greeted me with a grin... Gave me hope that maybe he had some good news.

"I've been looking over the ring." "And ?" "I found cryogenic residue beneath the metal. You said you and her were frozen ?" At that moment.. Tears formed in my eyes. I was beyond relieved to hear this news. I felt it all along but, now It was confirmed. That is Sage's ring. And She is alive !
