Being an early graduate at 16, Veterinary school was really taking a mouthful of Aleks's ass. He was only a one year in and everything seemed to be falling apart. Fortunately he was lucky enough to be able to share an apartment with his good friend Joe, who happened to be a couple years older- old enough to rent his own place. Joe was nice enough to let Aleks pay a small amount of rent- as long as he kept up with buying groceries and keeping his cats tame.

Aleks had 3, Rami, Karma and Bee. Rami was the oldest at 14, being Aleks's first cat. He was a mix of sorts (Aleks suspected Maine Coon and perhaps Burmese) but he loved him nonetheless. Karma and Bee were twins, purebred Cornish Rexes which has costed him half of his non university savings. Nevertheless, Aleks believed they were worth every last penny.

His interest in animals has been lively ever since 10 year old Aleksandr his mother volunteered at their local animal shelter in Russia as a form of therapy for his anxiety. From there on, his path towards veterinary school went through many bumps (most from his father, whom believed Aleks should be a "real" doctor, not one that fixed useless animals) but he pushed through, determined to succeed and finally be able to work with the animals he adored. Except for dogs, god forbid he had to work with those fucking mangy creatures.

James never liked photography until senior year- when he needed a career choice. He was never a sciencey kinda guy, he instead felt himself leaning towards the arts. After many failed attempts to paint and long nights trying to make EDM tracks on Garageband, he decided pictures couldn't be that hard to take. He'd just need pretty girls and even prettier scenery and then people would be drooling over his "art". He took photography during his last 2 semesters in high-school and his teacher seemed to like James's photos. Although he never got anything above an 86% he figured his skills would perfect during college. In addition, he would rarely have homework and his parents wouldn't have to pay a massive amount of money to send him to some expensive university- it was a win win.

His first year went smoothly, he had gotten a job at a local steakhouse and taken some photography commissions here and there. Towards the end of the year he bought a corgi whom he decided on calling Ein. She was expensive as fuck but worth every penny.

During the summer he started to rent out his own place, away from his vexatious housemates (who were also relieved to get rid of James as his constant drunken one night stands and the consumption of their leftovers was getting to be rather irksome). Although the apartment was a bit farther away from the campus, it was trivial to James because he could finally have privacy and some goddamn peace and quiet. The flat was cozy and had a gorgeous view- perfect for what James had desired. And to top it all off, there was a small park just outside the complex in which he could take Ein out for her much needed exercise.

Maybe James got too cocky, or maybe the cold weather caused him to be fatigued. Whatever the cause may be, he happened to start failing this semester. His teachers complained of repetitive work- that he needed something else than a small dog, some trees and various women. Albeit James was confused as he thought dogs, nature and pretty girls was all people wanted to see in photography, he was determined to pass. Even if he didn't want to, his parents would probably cut off the money they were supplying him and boy did he need that extra cash. How else was he supposed to pay for his overly expensive Iphones and coffee? If he was going to be a classy art student he needed to prove to his parents that he would at least try to pass. Ein's fussy taste in dog food was counting on him.

Maybe it was fate, or dumb luck or maybe it was the whopping 92% one of his classmates got on their photo of a cat. Whatever it was, James make the mature decision to adopt a whole goddamn cat just to pass and hey! He didn't even need a whole cat, even one that was missing a leg would work just as dandy.
