I sat up and tried to remember where I was, but the last thing I remember is my parents riding away, leaving me in front of the entrance to the forest.
~Flashback~
"Mommy!! Daddy!! Don't leave me here!! Please!!" I cried, clutching onto my plush purple cat. "I'm sorry, Riley..." My mother said to me, holding back tears. "We have to go, Olivia." My father said harshly. My mother only snarled at him and bent over to hug me tightly. "Why mommy?" I whimpered. I'm only 9, why would they leave me? My mother kissed my forehead and handed me my dark purple messanger bag. "I'm sorry sweetie, we have to go..." She said, letting her tears flow. My father called for my mother to get in the wagon, and she gave me one last kiss on the forehead before getting into the car. "Goodbye, kid." My father said, waving out the window of the closed wagon. They drove away while I stood there, still clutching onto my purple cat and holding my bag, starting to cry more. I turned around, something covered my face, and I blacked out.
~Flaskback Over~
That was all I could remember. I looked around, trying to make out where I was. The most I could see was that I was in a small room with log walls, a rocking chair, and a small bed. I stood up and brushed off my purple skirt and black and white striped long sleeve shirt. I couldn't see much without my glasses though, so I looked around to find them. I spotted them on top of a blanket on the rocking chair. I picked them up and put them on- this was much better. I decided to investigate the newly discovered door, since there wasn't much in the room I was currently in. I am a very curious and naive child, at least that's what everyone tells me. I opened the door and looked around; my nose instantly touched something hard, and I looked up. I looked up, and a tall, young guy was looking down at me. I gasped and took a step back, though I wasn't really afraid. "Oh, sorry kid, did I scare you?" The man said, holding his hands up in defense. His voice was gravelly, and kinda scary, but it seemed like he was trying to be gentle. "I saw you crying, out in the forest and you passed out when I tried to talk to you, so I brought you here since I didn't know if you were hurt." He said, rubbing his arm bashfully. I just looked at him and smiled, "Thank you, sir!". He was frazzled, to say the least. He looked at me in confusion for a second before returning the smile. "By the way, what's your name, kid?" He said, glancing behind him. "Riley, My name's Riley." I said proudly, rocking on my heel and holding oit my hand for him to shake. "Alright Riley, you hungry?" He asked, shaking my hand and gesturing out the door. "Yeah, a little, do you have waffles?" I asked, tilting my jead to the side. He chuckled and nodded. "Hey Fran! The kid woke up!" He called. I heard feet running across the wood floor, before a pretty lady stopped in front of me and Mr. Tall. "Hey, kid! My name's Francesca, but you can call me Fran!" The lady said, smiling and holding out her hand for a handshake. "My name's Riley!" I said, tippy-toeing to shake her hand. "Aww, she's so cuuute!" She cooed, patting my head. I smiled bigger and looked past her, into the next room. I saw a couch with a tiny table in front of it, and a kitchen in the back of the room. There were two doors on the sides, and two more doors closer along the wall. The two chuckled at my reaction to the house, since my mouth was hanging open from how pretty it was. There was even a fire in there! Mr. Tall face walked over and sat on the couch, watching the fireplace. Ms. Fran walked over to the kitchen, gesturing for me to follow. She pointed to a stool in the middle of the kitchen floor and kindly told me to sit. I did as she told and looked around more as she put on a pretty apron. I could see outside from the glass door leading out. It looked like it was early morning, since the sun was still coming up. I watched as a bird landed and ate from a bird feeder just outside the door. "So, what do you want for breakfast?" Ms. Fran asked, putting her hands on her hips. "Waffles!" I exclaimed, bouncing on the stool and smiling. Ms. Fran laughed and exclaimed "Well, waffles it is!". Mr. Tall gave a 'woot' from his spot on the couch, making both me and Ms. Fran laugh. "Come over here and help, John! You big dork!" Ms. Fran exclaimed. "Okaaay, for the sake of waffles..." Mr. John groaned and got up from the couch, slowly making his way to the kitchen. I smiled and Mr. John hugged Ms. Fran from behind, resting his head on her shoulder as she got the ingredients to make the waffles.
~Time skip brought to you by waffles~
After we had some breakfast, we all sat down on the couch and got 'aquainted' with each other. (That's a big word I heard Ms. Fran say!) Mr. John is a merchant, which means he gives stuff to people and they give him something else. Like buying something, but theres no money! Ms. Fran is a Farmer, and she sells food she grows at the market. She keeps some of the food for home, and then sells the rest so they can buy things. They said that they would help me find my parents, but I don't really want to. I told them all I could remember about them: Mother wasn't working, so I got to see her the most. I remember her hair, like the orange leaves in Autumn; and her eyes, like all the shining silver in the world had gathered in them. I remember her face and hands most of all; she was pale, almost like the snow that falls in December, with orange-like spots over her nose and cheeks. I remember my father, who was a businessman. He had dark, curly brown hair, and eyes golden like the coins always in his pockets. He was only slightly darker than mother, since he was rarely ever outside. We were a happy family, until a few weeks ago, they stopped talking to me. I was heartbroken, and my only friend was my purple kitty, Yuri. "Riley?" Mr. John had been calling me. I remembered that we had been talking. "Yes?" I asked, blinking back to focus. "We lost you for a minute there, are you okay?" He asked, seeming concerned. "I'm tired..." I said, yawning and rubbing my eyes. Mr. John nodded and led me back to the small room, where I would be sleeping. "Are you okay sleeping alone?" He asked holding the door open for me. "Mhm" I hummed, nodding my head. I grabbed Yuri and waved for Mr. John to leave so I could change into my nightgown. "Goodnight Riley." Mr. John said through the door. "Goodnight Riley!" Ms. Fran yelled from another room. "Goodnight Ms. Fran; Goodnight Mr. John!" I yelled back. I changed into my nightgown and got into bed with Yuri, falling into a deep sleep.
