It was cold in Kyushu. Snow covered the ground in a thin layer, and as I looked out my bedroom window my warm breath fogged the glass. I watched closely at the house next door to mine. There was a big truck, specifically a moving truck on the road.
There was a figure getting out of a red car parked in the driveway but I couldn't see through the fogged window. I took the sleeve of my sweater and wiped it away until the view was clear.
It was a boy... he looked foreign, but I couldn't make out from where. He also seemed a little older than my age, six. I watched as he looked around confused, his grey hair in his face. An older woman stepped out of the car. She was wearing fancy attire and had on fancy sun glasses.
It's not even sunny...
My eyes changed directions as I watched my own mom run across our own snowy yard to the lady's side, hands tucked in her less-fashionable winter coat. They seemed to be greeting each other. The older lady only gave a small smile and it disappeared quickly as she looked my mom up and down. My mother's happy expression changed. My mom kinda stood for a second acting all hesitant but seemed to start small talk.
I was observing the boy closely as he continued to look around aimlessly. He flicked his hair back and I got a glimpse at his full face.
My heart raced.
What was that?
I held my chest confused on what I just felt. My feelings, however, were interrupted by a muffled shout from outside my window.
"YURI!"
I was taken aback and my eyes widened. I looked out the window. The boy's confused gaze looked up at me. No expression.
"Yuri, come meet the boy next door! His name is Victor!"
