CH 2 Running with Blue

Start from the beginning

The old women from before was back at the counter, but she'd lost her gentle poise and was now bent over and shaking. A look of disgust and anguish etched into her wrinkled face.

Wolves are connected by thought, and it would seem Damien had already shared with his pack what I had done. Any second now the woods and streets would swell with warriors.

Blue purred from within me as I burst threw the door, unintentionally breaking it from the hinges, and into the darkness of early nightfall. How long was I in there? Turning on my heels I took off around the side of the building, thankfully cutting through an alley I hadnt know was there to an open parking lot and the canopy of more buildings. An apparent warehouse district thick with industrial storage sheds and equipment. Aka lots of places to hide, while still maintaining a low scent profile thanks to the stench of gas and burning metals.

A crash echoed somewhere from behind me pushing me to move faster. As I ran out from the mouth of the alley Blue rushed forward through my thoughts engulfing me, the tremendous amount of pressure she put on my head and behind my eyes stopped me mid step. I collapsed unable to do little more then breathe through the percieved pain.

*Times up.*

My vision blurred in and out of focus until everything around me gave off it's own white haze, and held a sharpness I'd never willingly before seen. The fatigue that had earlier hung over me dissapeared and I felt all of the sudden weightless. Strength flooded my every pore and I was forced to relise how previously Id been disgustingly slow. Sloth even. It was like suddenly Id woken up and crawled my way out from under the weight of humanity. The energy was a high all its own, revitalizing me. Rising in a blur I went flying over the asphalt behind the furthest warehouse.

Blues power was something Id only ever been an unwilling passenger to experience. It was rare we ever coexisted like this, I could only recall two occassions in which Id been gifted her strength before now. And for good reason, it was addictive. She was addictive. And insane. As time blurred around us, I couldn't help butt revel in her experience. Recalling the past when as children we would litterly glow in our shared efforts together. When as children we had gotten along.

But things had changed over time, we'd both grown bitter. Unable to truly coexist Blue turned to stealing from me something irreplaceable whenever we bonded and I, in spite, did the same. We were like children again, behaving selfishly. It had been expected, we were alone together again. She had known we'd revert to this when she left us, knew this would happen over time. Its all your fault, you did this to us. The high was fading and with it my appreciation to Blue. As if I was waking up I felt dirty for using her power, I should be resisting her. This was wrong. She's stealing again. The tightness in my chest grew at the realization.

With Blues power in my veins I ran as fast as the wolves, if not faster. Once safe, I'll cut her off. I rationalised, unsure if by then I'd still be able to.

I'd made it ten blocks in no time and nearing home when, from the corner of my eye, I caught the sight of something gruesome in the glass of a gas stations back door. I stalked closer and hissed as I realized that gruesome creature staring back at me was a reflection of Blues power. A reflection of myself.

All the percievable color in my face had drained leaving my once olive toned skin white and waxened. My eyes had sunk further into the contours of my skull making the skin around them appear quite black and lifeless. I dared to take a step closer and a sob escaped me. In contrsst the veins around my brow were swollen with blood and bulging out from beneath the skin. But the veins, as horrifying as they might be weren't what held my horrified expression. There was something terribly different about my eyes. The whites, as though every vessel had popped and emptied there, were darkened to red toned black and the iris, which once contained a deep brown, had invertintly gone white creating an inhuman contrast.
