CHAPTER 1
As my dad got into the driver's seat and started the engine, I took one last look at the house we had lived in for six months and thought to myself, "Not again." I asked my mom, "Why is it that we keep moving like this? I hate it."
"Abigail," my mother said with a concerned look on her face, "you know very well why we have to keep moving like this."
"Listen to your mother Abby," my father said with a stern voice, "if we stay too long in one place, it'll draw trouble to us and as we are right now, we won't even be a match against them."
"Yeah, yeah I know it's...just...I didn't get to say any goodbye's to any of my friends, and then attending a new school, making new friends, and meeting new people its going to be hard; especially if everyone is so judgmental."
"Oh honey," my mother said, "don't be silly! You'll make friends in no time."
Yeah, easy for her to say, my mom is beautiful with a slender body, light skin, pink lips, blue eyes, and brown, curly long hair. Compared to my mom, I'm what you call ugly. I am really skinny with black straight hair, blue eyes, and pale white skin. I am the polar opposite of her, so mush so, that people doubt that were related. I'm the black sheep of my family. I dress very differently, let's just say springtime colors aren't the colors I'm into. I always wear black clothes, or close to it, black eyeliner, and paint my nails black. Everyone has a name for my kind of people, they call them "Goths." I like to refer to myself as a "goth/punk." I know I came up with it myself. I am not completely goth because I don't follow their ideals of satanism and I like the punk look, so I just combined it. If I had any siblings, which I don't, I would have been the black sheep. My dad is the same as my mom, but more nerdy, although he is handsome, I can't argue with that, but he is such a klutz and very forgetful. 'Till this day I don't know how my mom has puts up with him always messing up and causing trouble. One time he was alone in the kitchen doing who knows what, next thing we know, we hear a big explosion and smoke coming out of the kitchen. There were many other incidents, but that one takes the cake. We have had so many good times, but we are always moving around and it has gotten to the point were I'm getting sick of it.
Somewhere along the drive, I had fallen asleep and realized that the car was parked at a gas station. I opened my eyes wide, to see my mom resting her head on the arm of her seat. I took a look outside from my window and noticed that it was early in the morning.
"Hey, mom what time is it?" I said with a sleepy voice and yawn. "Oh, your up?" my mom asked, "It's almost four thirty," she answered. I stared at her for a moment then stared out the window for a bit. "Where exactly are we headed?" Looking confused as to where we were, I stared back at mom and she stared back at me with a look that said bad news. "Well I know your probably not going to like what I say, but we're moving to Montana." As she continued talking, a feeling of dread sank to the pit of my stomach, I couldn't believe what she had just said. Montana! Of all the places in the world, my parents chose Montana! All I could see was my mothers lips moving and moving, but I was feeling like the world had come crushing down on me it was too overwhelming. I couldn't speak, my mothers babbling had stopped and I heard my mom calling my name.
"Abi...Abiga...Abigail Adler are your listening to me?" My mom snapped me out of the nightmare I was in and I noticed the concern on my mothers face. "Mom! ugh I just had a nightmare," I told her, "I dreamt that you had told me we were moving to Montana!" My mom stared at me, "Abigail," my mom said, "It wasn't a dream we are really moving to Montana. Pierre, Montana to be exact. I hear it is a really great place and the people are friendly."
"Oh and who is the one who told you this?" Though I could have already guessed who told her, but still I had to confirm my suspicions. "Well...it was the council." I knew it. "Well it figures, they would do anything just to keep me safe." Looking at my mom I started complaining again, "It's not fair! I'm going to stand out way more than I did in Washington!"
"Now that isn't true Abigail!" my mom said, "there will be plenty of people who share the same interest of clothes and amusement as you." "Yeah right!" I replied and gave my mom an angry stare I pressed my lips together in a pout and, yes everyone I was throwing a teenage tantrum, I told my mom "Don't talk to me traitor!"
Just then my dad came back with his hands full of food and drinks for us, when he sat in the driver's seat he felt the tension between mom and I. "So I'm guessing you told her, Rebecca." "Of course I told her and now she's feeling as if her whole world is falling apart right in front of her eyes." I just ignored what she said and ate the food my dad brought us. After we finished eating breakfast, we were on the road again.
"It's still going to take one more day to get there," my mom said, "We will be in Montana by nightfall."
I stared out the car window and kept thinking, "Why...why do we have to keep doing this? I don't like moving around like fugitives, I hate it!"
