Chasing Cinderella

Chapter 1

Many people on their twelfth birthday receive bikes, video games, or a pet. But no not me, I (Alexa) got something a little different. I got the amazing gift of my evil stepmom being my legal guardian, and two evil step sister. My twelfth birthday was the worst day of my life, that was the day that my father, who was my best friend, had passed away. My mother was nowhere to be found and legally was unable to take care of me, so that left me to stay with my stepmom who treats me like a slave, rather than a human.

Time flies and soon enough it has been 10 years since my father's passing, I am now twenty four years old and still serving my stepmom and her daughters. I've been asked by my best friend Samantha as to why I have not left yet and that's because Marissa, my stepmom, has control over me. Marissa was asked by my dad to hold my university money until the end of the summer after graduation. So, the only way I can get my money is if am her slave until the end of the summer. Which luckily, the last day of summer is only three months away.

"Alexa get down here right now!" Marissa calls my name.

"Coming" I speak through the intercom back to her. I make my way downstairs into the study room where she is sitting.

"Seeing as it is the first day of summer, here is your list of summer chores." Marissa hands me an incredibly long list. "Oh and if you're wondering why it's long, that's because it's your last one and I made sure to make it extra special for you." She laughs. Her laugh sounds like the hyenas in the "Lion King" to be exact.

"Come on twins or else I'm going to be late to work!" Marissa yells to the intercom.

The twins walk down the stairs dressed in the same outfit as they usually are, just different colors.

"Oh and Alexa, I'll need you to stop by my work today, I have someone you need to pick up." Marissa says while walking out the door. "Be there at one, or else no university money." She cackles and slams the door.

I walk towards the stereo and plug in my phone. Music starts blaring throughout the entire house. I am more productive when I listen to music while I clean. I get done a lot faster then if I don't listen to music.

Soon enough it's twelve thirty, I head to my car to meet up with Marissa. I turn on the radio and hear a song that is all too familiar, "Stay Young" by Strata. When I was little my dad used to play that song all the time. It brings back so many memories. You bet your sweet little booties that I jammed out to that song!

Twenty minutes later I pull into the parking lot of her company and head towards the door. I greet Mary, the secretary, who is slightly terrified of Marissa. I don't blame her, I mean I would be too if I constantly got yelled at by her, I mean I do but I'm used to it by now. I walk to the elevator, push the up button and take it up to the 6th floor, where Marissa's office is. I walk out of the elevator and down the long windy hallway all the way until I see a door that says "COO" and knock 3 times, it is considered rude if I do not.

I hear a nasty, nasally voice say "Come in."

"Aw Alexa, there you are!" Marissa says walking over to me. Hearing her say those words made me extremely uncomfortable considering she had actually treated me like a human being. It made me sick to my stomach. I look around and notice a very attractive young man sitting in the chair in front of the desk.

"Alexa, this is Blake. Blake Williams." Marissa says while Blake stands up to shake my hand.

"Nice to meet you!" Blake says while staring into my eyes. "You too" I stutter out while staring into his blue orbs.

"You will be taking him back to our place. He will be our guest until the end of the summer. He is my intern and I thought what no better way for him to learn then to be around me and my girls for his entire stay." Marissa walks behind her desk and sits down. "Grab his bags, and leave, I have a lot to do."
