"Yeah Lucas, I know, but think about it.."
"Kevin, she's the reason why we have the money in the first place!"
"Quiet down Lucas. She might hear you."
"She's asleep Kev, and I am not going to betray her like that. She helped you."
"Lucas, think logically. She's just in the way! If we get rid of her now while it's easy, we can get 7 and 1/2 million each, bro."
"I don't know Kevin. I love her-"
"Think of all the better girls you'll get with that type of money."
"I'll think about it."
Right when I heard Lucas say he'll think about it, I lost all hope. They're going to kill me for my share of money. My own best friends, plotting on murdering me. How did it escalate so fast?
Let's rewind....

My House
As Justin Bieber blasted in the background, I danced around my room cleaning as much as I can in the process. Shooting dirty socks into my hamper pretending that I was a pro at basketball, and using my vacuum as a dancing partner as i suddenly became a professional ballroom dancer. As I was finishing up my room, I started to settle down. Still humming to the music, I looked to the clock.
Oh crap.. they should be here any moment..
I realised.
I turned my music off and ventured into my closet to wear the first thing I saw. While struggling to put my skinny jeans on, i heard my doorbell ring. I sighed in frustration.
I walked to my front door and zipped my jeans up on the way. I smiled at the two goofs in front of me. Kevin walked right in towards my room without me saying anything.
"He's in a mood." Lucas explained to me. I nodded in response. Kevin has always been the quite, moodier boy of the two. Lucas was the loud, funny, and sentimental one. Two complete different personalities, yet they clashed perfectly. If Kevin wasn't grumpy, the two would have you in stitches in a matter of a minute. They brought the best out of each other. I stepped aside to let Lucas in.
We walked into my room, and plopped down on my bed. I was going to put a movie on when i saw that Kevin was pacing.
Yes, Kev was deffinity in moods very often, but i've never seen him pace. I gained Lucas's attention and nodded towards Kevin. Lucas shrugged and obviously thought nothing of it because he went right back to his phone games. I decided to put matters into my own hands.
"Kevin. What's going on?" I asked concerned.
He looked up at me, and I saw that he was crying. Panic started to settle in. Kevin never cries.
"Kevin?"
"Juliet. Don't hate me." He said while choking back tears. It didn't work, he blinked and tears ran down his face. For a second there, I actually saw emotions in his eyes. His dark brown eyes started to lighten, and his 'bad boy' persona washed away with each tear. He was vulnerable. I've never seen him at this state before. I stood up and hugged him. His tense body started to calm down under my hug. He sobbed into my hair. I looked at Lucas, his mouth was agape. He looked like he just saw a ghost.
"Kevin, what's wrong?" I comforted him.
He pulled back from the hug and tried to put himself back together. The once light brown eyes that were filled with emotion became emotionless once again. He sniffled and took a deep breath.
"I'm in trouble.. in a lot of trouble." He spit out with his eyes watering again.
"What type of trouble?" His best friend since kinder, Lucas, asked.
"Not with law, but with a gang." His voice cracked. He was genuinely scared.
"What?!" I started pacing and my own eyes watered.
You may all be wondering why I'm being so anti climactic about his situation. Y'all are probably saying,
"She's overreacting about this all."
"She probably has no idea what a gang even is."
"Why is she crying? It's not her problem."
"She doesn't even know the situation, jeez. Drama queeeeen"
Oh, but trust me. I've had a few 'run ins' with 'gangs' before. My dad? Cholo. My mom? A chola in my dad's gang. Me? The one everyone looked at as the upcoming leader. I honestly thought that was my calling, too. Up to 11th grade, I wandered the street with my cousins, doing the dirty work for my dad. Don't worry, I wasn't going around killing people. Just the drug work. That's about enough information I'm going to give. But, as you can see, I know all about the 'gang' system. Nothing good comes from it. Ever since I left, my own family shuns me. That's why I cling to Kevin and his goofy accomplis, Lucas. They supported my decisions, and took me in as family.
" You hate me now." Kevin stated, now frustrated tears rolling down his cheeks once again.
"No, Kevin. I don't hate you. I'm just not the biggest fan of your choices at the moment." I said, my voice laced with annoyance.
"I hate you! Are you out of your mind? Did the stories Juliet told us not scare you enough!" Lucas shouted at Kevin. When Lucas was upset, he was just as bad as Kevin. Lucas might be a sweetheart, just don't take his sweet personality for granite.
Kevin flinched at Lucas's tone.
"I'm sorry bro, I wasn't thinking." Kevin explained through a clenched jaw. Lucas got dangerously close to Kevin with madness read all over his face.
"Exactly, what did you do?" Lucas asked in a surprisingly soft tone that did not match the way he was staring down Kevin.
Kevin took a deep breath to calm himself down.
"Well, you know Alec? The one who was abusing Kate?" Kevin questioned while rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yeah, what does he have to do with anything?" Lucas and I exclaimed in union.
"Well," Kevin chuckled, "I wanted to get back at him by abusing his car. I might've mistaken a drug dealers car to his, and bashed the back window in with a bat, and maybe I also keyed the side of it. While, the people were in the car." He smiled innocently trying to lift the tension off of our shoulders.
I dug my face in my palm while Lucas stared at his feet and shook his head.
"How do you manage to do all that without realising there was people in the car?" I asked extremely annoyed.
"uhm, I have no idea. I surprise myself all the time. When I got to the passenger's side of the car, a guy stuck a gun out the window and told me if i don't have 500 grand by May 22nd he would track me down and kill me." Kevin explained, " It just rattled me because how the heck am i going to get that kind of money? Especially in only 3 months? I'm gonna die. I can't even afford McDonald's."
I couldn't help but laugh at his last remark.
Lucas stared at the wall with a blank expression.
"You better find an apartment in Nebraska." Lucas finally contributed to the conversation.
"No, they'll still find a way to find him." I explained. If a man wants that type of money, he's going to get his money.
"Then, what should I do?"
That was the question running through everyone's mind. What should he do?
