I awake up at five thirty as per usual. After getting ready I grab my tea and head downstairs. I hope to get some reading in before the shop opens at eight. Just as I settle in a chair behind the register with my new book and a cozy cup of tea Blue scares the living day lights out of me. Blue is my cat. Gabriel, my candy addicted brother, saw him at the shelter he works at and got him for me, claiming that "He looks just like you!". I guess that is true, Blue has longish black fur that somewhat matches my hair and deep blue eyes that strongly resemble my own. I guess one could say the blue is "special" per say. He likes to sit on top of the book shelves, just watching or he'll casually sit on my head for hours at a time. The whole siting-on-head thing gets some strange looks from customers but I wouldn't give him up for the world, quirks and all. Blue was hiding behind some fabric behind the chair that makes it look like the cozy reading nook that it is. Blue currently resides atop my head, just watching the world from a cat's point of view. I sigh and continue reading. how he even says up there through out the day astounds me.

I get about three or so chapters into my book before I glance at the clock. It's seven thirty and I should probably freshen up a bit before I have to open. I get up and place the book back onto the shelf, all the while Blue continues to purr on the top of my head. I head up to brush my teeth but as soon as I look in the mirror I gasp. There are black smudges covering my body. My face and arms have taken most of the blow but I feel some on my chest. What in the world is my soulmate doing? I snag a pen from my desk contemplating if I should really do it. I decide to take a risk for once in my life and jot "seriously?" on my arm where the black smudges haven't taken over. I put the pen cap back on and glance down unrealistically hoping for a response so soon but another black smudge has conveniently covered up my writing. I'm stuck like this till Mr. Soulmate takes a shower.

I walk downstairs around eight fifteen and go to open the door to find my sole employee and best friend, Charlie at the door glaring at me. I always open the door at eight on the dot and Charlie is always here a little after eight.

"You're never late Cassie, what's the reason why I was waiting in the rain for ten minutes?" Charlie demands.

"It was raining?" I say dazed

"yes you idiot now care to explain" Charlie sasses. I sigh and take of my jacket revealing the presumed "oil smudges" that are covering my fore arms, face, and neck. I sigh and hang up my jacket. There's no use trying to hide it. I looked at charlie, waiting for a response.

"Acceptable excuse!" she shouts, speaking like a robot, causing us to both go into a fit of giggles.

"Anyways" Charlie begins. "What's Blue up to?"

"He's on top of my head. Nothing usual, well at least for Blue." I state the obvious.

"No Blue is standing on your head." Charlie informs me.

"Touché" I reply. Charlie, Blue, and I head in and sit behind the desk, well Charlie and I do, Blue is still on my head.

Charlie and I had some light conversation and luckily the oil smudges went away at about four thirty. Not soon after that, I felt pen on my arm. I look down to see messy scrawl working its way across my arm.

Charlie had to go home early so I was left all alone to talk. I found out my soulmate's name is Dean, that he has green eyes, and works at a auto and hardware store, which explains the oil. We end our conversation because Gabriel arrived at my door to have dinner with me.

"Hey Gabe" I greet while opening the door.

"Hey Cassie. I brought pizza!" he holds up the steaming box of pizza.

"Gabe you have a sucker in your mouth.  how do you even eat with those in your mouth?" I question.

"I have my ways. Now I'm hungry let's eat." He insists pushing past me and running up the stairs with the pizza clutched to his chest. I sigh and head up the stairs after him. I sit down at my small table and go to grab a slice of pizza when Gabriel interrupts.

"Whatcha got there on your arm baby bro" he says in an I'm-asking-this-like-a-question-but-you-have-no-choice-but-to-answer tone that is known to come from older siblings.

"I talked to my soulmate." I say really fast.

"Ooo What's his name? Does he have any pets? How old is he? Any siblings? Tell me!" Gabe practically  yelled at me.

"His name is Dean and I don't know much more than that." I state closing the conversation.

"Fine." He huffs. "At least tell me what Blue has been up to." I look at him straight in the eye.

"He stood on top of my head for thirty minutes before lying back down and staring down a customer." I retorted trying, but failing, not to laugh. Gabriel loves Blue. He picked him up from the shelter and gave him to me by sneaking into the store in the middle of the night with cat supplies, and dropped him on my chest at two am while blaring jingle bells as loud as he could on a crappy phone speaker regardless of the fact that it was the middle of June. Gabe always loves to hear about Blue and I and our little adventures. He loves Blue for his quirks and gave him to me with no warning and no birthday or holiday anywhere near.

"you know Gabe" I start. "Blue is staring at you from inside that drawer." I gesture towards a drawer in the kitchen. Blue is inside watching us, only his blue eyes are visible through the opening to the drawer. Honestly I don't know how he even got in there.

"I swear that cat is magical." I mutter
