A Short Time or Two

476 45 83

Miranda, you kissed my collar
Smearing lipstick the way you do
But you know I'm just a rake
Who would trade one more mistake
For the chance of loving you

Last night at the cantina
An angel should sing so clear
When the moonlight found your eyes
It was then I realized
The reason we both are here

Let's not talk about tomorrow
It's time to give the devil his due
'Cause drifters hop a bus and flowers start to rust
After a short time or two

Autumn came along too quickly
And they're calling for an early freeze
The moon's almost new and it's sad and it's true
But we both feel a longing in the breeze

Your eyes have always told me
Of when it's time for you to come
And now it's time to leave you've nothing up your sleeve
Except a plan to cut and run

We've talked about tomorrow
Talked until we're black and blue
But it's just the two of us kicking up some dust
Living this short time or two

Miranda, kiss me once more sweetly
Once or twice or maybe a few
And when we meet again we'll meet again as friends
Like lovers who aren't quite through

So don't talk about mañana
Forget we ever had a clue
'Cause drifters hop a bus and flowers start to rust
After a short time or two

We're drifters on a bus
Kicking up some dust
Here just a short time or two
