There was once a sunflower living by a mailbox. She loved looking at the sun, for it was one of her favorite things. She loved her seeds even more. She admired their black color and how they smelled of soil. But, one day a bird swooped down and ate one of her seeds.
"Ouch!" Exclaimed the sunflower. There was a pot with three cacti next to her, that she would often take advice from. She turned to them and asked,"Will he not come again?"
"He will," said one of the cacti.
"No, No! He will not!" exclaimed the second one.
"He will not, because you have your spikes to protect you!" added another.
"You doofus! She does not have spikes like we do!" Shouted the first one.
"Oh, my! Then,
what to do?" asked the other two.
"She should just try to ignore him, he will come again, but go away soon." The first one replied. And so, that's what the sunflower did. She ignored him. He came every day, each day taking more seeds along with him.
Soon, the sunflower had one seed left. She became so depressed that she couldn't even look at the shining sun. "What do I do now? I am a drooping flower, and drooping flowers are not healthy flowers!" She exclaimed.
"We don't know," said the first cactus."You do not have spikes like us, so you can't protect yourself."
"Yes, yes. That is the truth," said the second cactus.
"Tis' a pity, really," added the third.
"Oh, what to do?" said the second.
"Maybe he will not come tomorrow," said the first. "Maybe he will go away."
And so the sunflower lived the next day as usual, staring at the road. Luckily, a piece of glass had somehow made its way into the street and in it you could see the sun just right.
The bird squawked loudly in the distance, making the cold air even colder. The bird swooped down and took the sunflowers very last seed. The cacti gasped in unison.
"Oh my!" The first yelled.
"Good heavens!" Piped the second.
"Tis' a pity.." mumbled the third.
The sunflower quickly became more weak over the days. The bird would still come, but just fly away. The dying flower did not have any more seeds for him.
"Are you ok, dear?" The first asked. No answer.
"Do you need some water?" Added the second. No answer. It had seemed the sunflower was already gone. The third cactus frowned.
"Tis' a pity, really."
