Chapter Fourty-Two

She knew what had happened. She didn't have to see it, or smell his infected blood to know. She knew that the wolves were here, and that they had now sent Jordan to his death bed. That sent a mixture of desperation and adrenaline, as well as pure rage through her.

She pulled back her closed fist and sent it at the glass in front of her, which promptly shattered into millions of tiny shards. When the glass broke, the room began to flash a bright red, and alarms echoed throughout the helicarrier. But she knew that everyone was far too worried about their task at hand to come after her.

The glass all around the cell broke completely, leaving only the floor and ceiling left in the metal cage. She stepped out of it, feeling heat forming under her skin. It was the fire in her heart, the anger. The monster that she only let out when it was absolutely necessary. Or when someone she loved was in danger. It had been let out the moment she murdered the people who tried to assassinate Loki, and when she ripped apart the wolves that killed Megan. And now it was let out once again.

The remaining wolves on the helicarrier were all hunted down, and were torn limb from limb until Seline was covered head to toe in splattered blood.

When she had finally decided to find Jacob and Jordan, she had smelled the blood before she had even entered the connecting hallway. The venom was sour and burned her throat when she inhaled. It had infected the air, and the venom was lethal to vampires, so it hurt them greatly, even when it wasn't in direct contact with them.

She saw Jordan laying on the floor, now unconscious. He was covered in blood, and unfortunately, most of it was his.

"W-What do we do?" Jacob suddenly asked, his usually calm demeanour failing. He was terrified that his friend was going to die, and that he hadn't been there to help him. It wasn't difficult to see that.

She could see that he had shifted between wolf and human form multiple times. He was now shirtless, as he had likely shredded his clothes the moment he shifted. She had no idea where he had gotten the pants he was wearing, but he assumed it was from one of the other many werewolves he had killed that just happened to be in human form. His palms were shaking. That showed that he had a strong and compassionate heart.

Seline looked down at Jordan and saw his arm, looking at the bite and swallowing a little. She didn't have time to answer before Tony, Loki, and Thor came running into the room. Jordan, Jacob, and Seline were the only ones in the control room still living. The three looked shocked at first, but then the surprise faded. It seemed that they had become accustomed to death.

"What the hell happened to him?" Tony asked, coming forwards.

"He was bitten by a werewolf. Their bites are lethal to our kind," Seline said, then knelt down. She took Jordan's right arm and put it around the back of her neck, then lifted him up. She held him up fairly easily. "I need to get him somewhere safe."

"Stark," Thor said, causing Tony to turn to him. "Your tower?"

Tony seemed unsure for a second, but then he nodded. "I have a floor that's open for guests. He can take that one."

"Thank you, Tony," she said. "I can only take him to a car. I need to go see someone."

"Seline," Jacob called out, running up to take Jordan's other arm. "You have a plan, right?"

She nodded. "Of course."

Jacob nodded as well. It wasn't like her to just give up. She would never let Jordan die, not without trying her best to save him first.

When she finally returned, she had a friend following behind her. It was a woman. She was rather short, with strawberry blonde hair and sunglasses covering her eyes even though she was inside. Everyone seemed to be confused about her, but they didn't question it. Perhaps they could feel the power radiating off of her.

Seline came into the room that Jordan was in, while all of the Avengers aside from Thor were in the living room. Loki was there as well, assisting Jacob in helping to keep Jordan still.

Jordan was now convulsing, taking in shallow and uncontrolled breaths. He wasn't quite screaming, but he was letting out sounds of pain, like grunts and groans that were so loud that the sound drifted into the hallway. Dark veins had formed on his skin, and his shirt had been taken off. The area around the bite on his forearm had turned pure white, the dark lines coming from it being the only source of colour. The colour moved up his arm and onto his shoulder, and it had gotten to the point where a thin layer of sweat was forming on him.

Seline knew exactly what to do, and so did the witch, Athene. But Loki, Thor, and Jacob had no idea what was about to happen.

"Seline, what are you going to do?!" Jacob shouted, trying his best to keep Jordan's left arm held down to the bed.

Seline didn't answer, while Athene stood beside her.

"Seline, you've gotta be the conduit," she said. "I need to channel you. Your strength will add to mine and help the spell."

"What spell?!" Loki shouted over the screams that Jordan had now started to let out once again.

Once again, she didn't answer. She simply grabbed Athene's hand and placed it on her shoulder, then put her own hand in the air over Jordan's body.

Athene began to say the chant over and over, and as she felt a new kind of power go through her body, Seline could also feel hers quickly become drained. Athene's voice turned into an echo in her ears, the sounds all fading to silence.

Seline was using her own power as a vampire and blending it with Athene's power as a witch, and expelling it from her own body. It was allowing the spell to be twice as strong as it normally would.

A fire-like light began to form over Seline's outstretched hand, then went down to cover Jordan's body. His breaths became deeper, like he was gasping for air. Before then, he had been in a trance, but now he was fully aware of what was happening. He knew his surroundings, and he could feel Seline's energy being formed in himself. It didn't hurt Jordan, but for him, it felt as if all of his senses were on overdrive.

It was entirely different for Seline.

She felt as if every blood cell in her body was on fire, and every breath she took was like inhaling sharp knives.

Jordan's chest suddenly rose, arching off the bed. He could feel himself slipping away, and he didn't know why. Seline did, and she knew that it was the only way to save her friend.

Jordan fell back against the bed, his eyes shut and his breathing shallow.

Athene's hand was ripped from Seline's shoulder, and Seline immediately doubled over from both the pain and the strength that had been ripped from her. The pain quickly faded, and it felt as if the fire inside her was being burnt out.

Jordan was completely unconscious now, and he looked altogether relaxed. He was going to be alright. For now.

Seline felt her knees get weak, and felt a pair of arms wrap around her to hold her up. She felt her left arm being lifted around the person's shoulders, but was too weak to even open her eyes. She could hear Athene explaining everything to Jacob.

"What the hell was that?!" he shouted, pointing down at his friend angrily then gesturing to Seline.

"We put him into a deep sleep," Athene said, panting still. "I can wake him whenever I want to, but until I do, the infection will not progress."

It was up to her now.
