How to Write This Poem

Find a quiet place to write, like an old library or a
Scenic spot off the river. Absorb your tranquil surroundings.

Take a deep breath. Close your eyes and relax,
Wait for ideas with anticipation with pencil in hand.

Think. Let the ideas flow freely.
Keep the gates to your imagination open. There are no limits.

Touch the pencil to paper and let it become an extension of
Your soul. Make your mind and pen one.

Continue like this until the gates snap shut.
Panic. You have a huge problem, writer's block.

Quiver with fear as you try to think of something to write.
Feel your pencil bursting with the ideas you have no access to.

Hear footsteps coming towards you,
Getting louder and louder as they draw near. Turn to see who it is.

Politely decline their offer to stop for lunch,
You need to finish this. Watch them walk into the distance.

Get back into the zone. Feel fresh ideas flooding your mind.
Lose yourself in the magic of the words.

Let the world's problems fade as you let the words flow from mind to paper, your pencil is the messenger.

Realize you're nearly done and go over the words
You've written with a critiquing eye.

Note with a broken heart that what you wrote was garbage
And angrily crumple the paper into a ball.

Relieve your frustration by hurling the ball
Across the room. Sharpen your pencil.  Start again.

This time, choose words with care, taking precautions
To get it right. Stress over phrasing.

Approach the end. Reread the poem and enjoy the glowing feeling inside as you take pride in your work.

Complete your final stanza. Feel the weight leave your shoulders because you know you don't have homework. Put your pencil down.

Stand. Stretch. Be free.

A/N: I wrote this two years ago, so as I read parts of this, I cringe, but whatever. Let me know what you think and comment and vote.
