"I feel so foolish knowing now how quick and easy it would've been to...exterminate him." Starlight continues to smile down at Incubus' body. I grow heated and angry. "Poor him. He wasn't so strong after all."

My mind races and my fingers itch. I feel a slight achey and stinging feeling in my right hand. My body moves without my conscious effort, and I soon realize that I just socked Starlight in his ugly face. I look down at my hands as if I was seeing some new species for the first time. Starlight growls, gingerly holding the left side of his face.

"So you have some fight in you too, huh?" He mutters, advancing towards me. "You and Incubus really are meant for each other."

I duck just in time for Starlight's clawed hand to rake the top of my head instead of the whole thing. I gasp, my breath coming out in quick little bursts. I didn't know what to do next, but the feeling running through me - the buzz of electricity on the tip of my nerves - took hold of me, and I let it. It was as if I was on autopilot, letting my body do what it willed. I didn't even know I could move that fast and viciously.

But the fight ended quicker than it began. Because, as my autopilot body raised its hands with slow, confident movement, I saw Starlight freeze in his tracks. He had been prepped to claw out my eyes with his hooked fingers, but was now stuck in that position.

I watched with wide eyes as purple sparks danced around my fingers, jolting and pricking me slightly. But the little sharp pains didn't distract me from the look on Starlight's face. He didn't know what was happening, and neither did I. But I knew something he didn't. Inside, deep, deep inside, I knew that I had the power to kill him. I was a reaper after all.

And that's what I was doing to him. I was killing him right where he stood. Zapping him out of existence.

The purple sparks suddenly jumped high, running straight at Starlight. I watched on with wonder and horror as the power struck him, blowing him off his feet. He cried out, and then slumped where he had fallen against a tree. I stared at my hands for so long, I wondered if I would go blind by staring at the bright sparks. When I looked up again at Starlight, I was absolutely disgusted. I had never seen anything like that before.

His body was a smoking charred lump of meat on the side of the road. As I stared on, my revulsion and contempt glueing my gaze to what I had just done, I saw a...a piece of blackened matter fall from the body. Probably a chuck of brain?

But my disgust couldn't hold me anymore, as I remembered Incubus. The dreaded, obnoxious, conceited jerk who ruined my life. Turning my head, I looked down at his body. He seemed much smaller, not tall and looming anymore. He was a pale, tiny thing now, splayed across the road. I walked to him, my heartbeat matching my slow and heavy footfalls. I knelt down one again and held him, wrapping my arms around his cold corpse. I didn't know why or when these...feelings for him emerged. But I knew that I felt something for him. I wasn't sure if it was romantic or pitying, but I felt something.

Holding him tighter and closer to me, I closed my eyes and tried my best not to attach myself to him.

And then I felt him cough. I looked down.

He was grinning.

"Wh - what?" I stuttered dumbly. "Incubus?" I questioned, instantly growing angry at him when he opened his bright red eyes and started laughing at me. But I was also so relieved.

He coughed and sputtered on his blood as he cackled. He rolled over and vomited onto the pavement, his hysteric laughter coming out gurgled and muffled.

"I - I can't die!" He yelled, his breath catching in his throat. He wheezed like an old man and continued laughing. "I'm forever! I'm eternal! I rule this fücking place!"

"I hate you!" I yelled back. "I'm leaving." And with that, I went to stand up, but Incubus moved faster. He always moved so fast. He grabbed my wrist, pulling me down again. Before I could muster another word to insult him, he pulled me in and kissed me, hard. I didn't even care if his black blood was staining my lips.

He pulled away hesitantly, the curve of his mouth soft. He was smiling at me gently again. He reached up and touched my cheek again, pulling my face closer to his once more. And just before our lips met once again, he whispered, making my heart beat like a wild bird in a cage.

"We're going to be one hell of a duo." His voice was laced with mischievousness.

But it held an unbreakable promise.
